Yesterday the PTA organised a PJ day and the children laid the copper trail with all the coins they had collected over the last few months. Hedgehogs had the longest trail at 63 meters! There are a lot of coins to count up so we will let you know how much was raised once this has been done.

Today children enjoyed an American themed lunch to mark American Independence Day. A big thank you to Donna and Steve for cooking delicious pulled pork burgers with wedges and corn on the cob followed by rocky road. The children loved it!

We are so lucky to have a fantastic outdoor space which we use to its full potential. Over the past few months children have been making some amazing structures using tyres, scaffolding planks and cable reels. They have been used to build dens and shelters and the water tray has been used imaginatively as a chocolate factory inspired by W***y Wonka. The poles have been popular to make jumps and other structures. In our play assembly children have explored the value of respect and how we can ensure we are showing respect to our outdoor environment.

Children have been loving the new mud kitchen in our nursery. A big thank you to Torrington Men's Shed who made this for us. They are a social organisation who help men and women who are retired or otherwise at a loose end to find social contacts. They help the local community with tasks, mostly to do with wood. If you would like further details then they can be contacted by email through [email protected]

This week we were lucky enough to be visited by David Hill, a retired Paralympic triathlete. He ran a sponsored fitness circuit with each class to raise money for sports equipment in school. David shared with us his journey on becoming a triathlete and inspired the children to be resilient and not to give up on your dreams. We had a wonderful time working with David and look forward to using the money raised to buy some new equipment.

We are really looking forward to welcoming all children back into school from Monday 8th March.

They might notice we have continued to think hard about how we can develop our play provision and grounds. Before half term, we arranged for some of the smaller trees and branches to be trimmed so we could use the materials to create a village of small structures and we are hoping these will be started soon.

The new sheds have been installed and look very smart. They provide excellent storage facilities for the loose parts we are collecting to support open ended play. We have invested in waterproof trousers, jackets and some wellies so as many of the children as possible to be able to access all of the site and play in all weathers.

We were kindly donated more tyres from BT Autos in Winkleigh and these have already had a lot of use to create social spaces and areas. Next we will be adding some planks and tarpaulins to open up the use of these even further.

As spring starts to lighten the days, we are excited about the opportunities ahead for learning, development and quality play.
