Being well-fed, rested and active helps children settle into new routines.

Does your child:
•Go to bed around the same time each night, waking up in time to get ready for school?
•Limit screen time to the recommended daily amounts (see advice)?
•Eat a healthy diet and try new foods?
•Brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day? (you’ll need to supervise this until they are at least 7)
This week, try introducing a school-style bedtime and mealtime routine.
A walk to your local park at “school-run time” is a great way to get ready.

Friendships help children feel safe and happy at school.
Being with others, sharing and taking turns with toys, and talking to children about how they are feeling and why makes a big difference at school.
This week, talk about kind behaviours like sharing, turn-taking, and using friendly words. Practise saying “hello” or starting conversations in play – it builds confidence.

Getting Ready – Growing Independence!
Can your child:
• Take part in imaginative play (e.g. role play)?
• Draw, paint, colour and stick?
• Share story books with caregivers, look at pictures and talk about the characters?
• Explore the world around them (e.g. looking closely at the natural world or playing safely with objects at home)?
Sharing books at home builds language and imagination.
This week, cuddle up with a favourite story, talk about what might happen next, or retell it in your own words. Encourage your child to choose books and tell you the story using the pictures!

Wow! What a fantastic three days we have had at Playscheme this year.
All of the children have been amazing as usual. They have been so polite and respectful and most of all they have all had fun!
Thank you to all of the staff and children that make it such a special start to the summer holidays.
We hope you all enjoy the summer!

Article 31 - Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

Getting Ready – Growing Independence!
Can your child independently:
• Put on / take off their coat and shoes?
• Get dressed with little help, e.g. after using the toilet or doing PE?
Mastering simple skills build confidence and make school feel less overwhelming.
This week, practise getting dressed together – turning clothes the right way round is a great challenge!

This week preschool have enjoyed a science session with Captain Chemistry. They spent the morning looking at animal skulls and thinking about the types of things that animals might eat. The children were very well behaved and engaged well with the session. We may have a few budding scientists in our midst! 🧬 🧪
