As part of their Service Day at RSIC 2026, hosted by Barker College, students worked together to tackle textile waste by sorting, folding and categorising donated clothing. Their task was to identify which items could be reused, donated to thrift stores or given a second life in the community.

Working in teams, students transformed a mountain of clothing into carefully organised piles, helping reduce waste and keeping usable items out of landfill.

"You have almost 1,000 kids who are all so motivated and into it. It is such a great community," says Caleb from Strathcona-Tweedsmiur School in Canada.

"I have learnt that as a team when we work together, we can all push much farther than we ever thought we could, Despite being exhausted, I pushed through and made it to the end." - Damian, Canada.

A long day on the mountain, but a good one.

From the Archive: When Nelson Mandela became Patron Round Square Patron

This Nelson Mandela Day, we are revisiting a remarkable moment in Round Square history.

On 4 October 1996, Nelson Mandela became a Patron of Round Square. During the meeting, His Majesty King Constantine of Greece, then Chairman of Round Square, presented him with a Round Square badge and Mr Mandela spoke about the importance of international understanding and young people learning from one another.

His message remains as relevant today as it was nearly 30 years ago:

“Through Round Square, you, the students have the perfect opportunity to get to know one another and to walk in each other’s shoes.”

📽️ Please watch and share with colleagues, students and friends.
