Struggling to engage your little one in Phonics?

An easy twist on this fun boxed game led to lots of engagement and a "can we play again?" moment!

To play this at home write some phonetically decodeable words (I choose which sounds were focusing on for the week) onto small envelopes, hide the swords inside and you're ready to play.

For added challenge/support I wrote the word only on one side of the envelope, and showed the sound buttons on the other.

Challenge your child to read the word to release/win the sword. Which word will make the pirate pop up?

This also works well for basic sound recognition, tricky words and numbers/sums.
