The Stannite Association

The group for the past pupils of Windermere School. Whether you're of the Chapel Ridding/Mr Jenkins Another aim was to hold annual reunions. Vincit qui se Vincit

One of the Association's original aims was to publish an annual newsletter, letting old students know what was currently going on in school, and giving them a forum to keep old friends updated on their news. It had an elected committee of ex pupils and members of staff to oversee things. We are pleased to say that these aims are still being fulfilled, with the newsletter now being available in glossy magazine, or electronic format, and reunions held on a three yearly cycle at Browhead. The current committee consists of a good selection of ex pupils and staff from a variety of eras. The Stannite Association is a core pillar of the Windermere School community, alongside students, staff, parents and governors. We are continually building a bridge between the past and present, and indeed the future of the school, with the aim that we preserve and enjoy the rich heritage of this exceptional place. To some of us, the school will always be St Anne’s, to others Windermere St Anne’s, and more recently simply Windermere School, but there is something greater that connects us all, a deep-rooted respect and bond with the place that has had such a formative impact on our lives.

Hola and welcome to Windermere! 💙

Today, we welcomed 23 pupils from Spain to Windermere School for a three-week immersion programme.

Over the next three weeks, they’ll be experiencing life as part of our school community - joining lessons, making new friends, discovering the Lake District and, we hope, enjoying plenty of the adventure that makes Windermere so special. 🏔️🌊

One of the wonderful things about our school is the opportunity to bring young people from different countries and cultures together. Friendships made here often become memories that last a lifetime - something our Stannites know particularly well.

We’re delighted to have our Spanish visitors with us and can’t wait to see what adventures the next three weeks bring!

Welcome to Windermere! ¡Bienvenidos! 🇪🇸💙

⛰️ A new generation of Stannite adventurers! 💙

Today, our Year 6 pupils took on their very first expedition as the new Leaders of the Prep School - and they certainly set the bar high!

Their challenge? To reach the summit of the Old Man of Coniston. 🥾⛰️

A brilliant day of adventure, teamwork, resilience and leadership, and a wonderful reminder that some of the best learning happens beyond the classroom.

We wonder how many of our Stannites remember their own adventures in the fells? 💙

Well done, Year 6 - what a way to begin your leadership journey!

🏆 WORLD CHAMPION! 🥇

A huge congratulations to Jonny Hunter, who has taken gold in the 400m at the 2026 OCR World Championship in Limerick, Ireland! 🇮🇪

Competing against some of the world's top obstacle course racers, Jonny produced an incredible performance to finish 1st in his age category.

The 400m sprint combines explosive speed and power with the running efficiency needed to sustain an intense effort, leaving very little room for error. After qualifying through the heats, Jonny delivered when it mattered most in Saturday's final. 💪

And there's even more to celebrate… Jonny's final time would have placed him 3rd in the Elite Category! 🔥

What an incredible achievement and a brilliant demonstration of determination, resilience and sporting excellence.

Congratulations, Jonny – we are incredibly proud of you! 👏🥇

✨ A trip down memory lane... ✨

It was a pleasure to welcome three former St Anne's pupils back to Browhead this week.

Anne Clark (née Stables), Christine Hardy (née Wilson) and Yvonne Simmons (née Moorby), who left St Anne's in 1971 and 1973.

They were joined by five other friends for a wonderful reunion, with two still living locally and Yvonne travelling all the way from London. As they wandered around the school, the stories came flooding back – from memorable teachers and mischievous adventures to the little moments that have stayed with them for over 50 years. There was certainly no shortage of laughter!

One fascinating piece of St Anne's history we learned was that Anne's father designed Crampton Hall – a lovely connection to our beautiful campus.

These visits are such a wonderful reminder that while schools change over the years, the friendships made here can last a lifetime. ❤️

We're always delighted to welcome Stannites back to Browhead. If you'd like to organise a reunion with your year group, we'd love to help with tours, refreshments and bringing everyone back together.

Do you have a favourite St Anne's or Windermere School memory? We'd love to hear it in the comments. 👇

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day to all our American families, past and present! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the wonderful community of pupils, parents, alumni and friends who have brought a little piece of America to Windermere over the years.

Walking around the campus today, I couldn’t help but stop and admire it in full bloom. 🌿🌸

At this time of year, the gardens seem to tell their own story – of seasons passed, memories made, and generations of Stannites who have walked these paths before us.

A little moment of summer at school, and a reminder of just how special this place is. We’d love to hear what memories this view brings back for you. 💙

While exploring the Stannite archives, I stumbled across this beautiful hand-painted plaque. Sadly, there was no date, no name and no accompanying information – just this wonderful piece of Windermere School history.

It feels too special not to have a story behind it.

So, over to our incredible Stannite community… Does anyone recognise it or know who made it, when it was created, or where it originally hung? We’d love to uncover its history and preserve the memories that go with it.

Every photograph, keepsake and story helps bring our shared heritage to life. If you know anything about this beautiful plaque, please let us know in the comments or send us a message.
