🥋 Tag time! 🥋

A big congratulations to Kabir on earning his third tag, and to Damien and Julien on earning their very first tags! 🎉

All three are making lovely progress. Tags aren’t just about learning techniques — they reflect the effort, focus and consistency I’m seeing on the mats.

Very well deserved, boys. Keep up the great work! 🥋👏

Sunday morning BJJ at WSMA 🥋

What actually is BJJ — and why is it so good for young people?

BJJ is a grappling martial art. Rather than relying on punches and kicks, students learn how to control another person using positioning, balance, leverage, throws, takedowns and groundwork.

And that makes it a fantastic way for children and teenagers to learn to solve problems while somebody else is actively trying to stop them.

They learn to think under pressure, adapt when something doesn’t work, stay calm when they’re in a difficult position and keep looking for a solution.

Physically, BJJ develops coordination, balance, strength, fitness and body awareness. But some of its biggest benefits aren’t physical at all.

It teaches resilience. Patience. Confidence. Self-control. The ability to cope with getting things wrong and simply try again.

At Wi******er School of Martial Arts®, I also put a lot of emphasis on how young people train.

Students work with different partners, ages, sizes and experience levels. More experienced students learn responsibility and leadership; newer students learn from those ahead of them. Training is structured and carefully supervised, with technique and controlled practice taking priority over simply trying to “win”.

There are no egos to prove and nobody is expected to be the best person in the room.

The aim is to become a little better than you were last week.

And judging by the smiles on Sunday morning, they seem to have quite a lot of fun doing it too. 😁🥋

September = back to BJJ! 🥋

Not long until our normal timetable returns and I’m looking forward to getting everyone back together on the mats.

If you’ve trained with me over the summer, brilliant. If you’ve spent the holidays doing absolutely no BJJ whatsoever, that’s fine too! 😂

We’ll be back to building technique, developing confidence, working with different training partners and - for those who want it - preparing for our autumn competitions.

Competition is always optional. Whether you train to compete, build confidence, improve fitness, learn genuine grappling skills or simply because you love BJJ, there’s a place for you on the mats.

Normal classes resume from 3rd September.

I’ve missed you all - see you soon! 🥋❤️

Looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Wi******er? 🥋

There are more opportunities to train martial arts than ever before - so what should you look for when choosing where to train?

For me, it starts with the quality of the teaching.

Teaching martial arts is my profession, not something I fit around another career.

I’m a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, a 3rd Dan Ju-Jitsu Black Belt and a qualified former secondary school teacher.

That combination shapes the way I teach.

BJJ at Wi******er School of Martial Arts is technical, structured and progressive. Students learn takedowns, positional control, escapes and submissions while also learning how to train safely, intelligently and respectfully with different partners.

For children and teens, the goal is bigger than winning rounds. BJJ provides genuine challenges through which they can develop confidence, resilience, problem-solving and the ability to keep going when something doesn’t work first time.

Competition is available for students who want it, with a structured competition pathway and coaching, but you never have to compete to belong here.

My full timetable returns in September and new students are welcome.

VIP Trial: £10, refunded if you join on the day of the trial.
