🌊 Sea, Sky and Earth - opening today!
Opening today at the Level 4 Gallery, Hartley Library, Sea, Sky and Earth brings together art, science and the environment through historic and contemporary works, from the 1970s to today.
The exhibition features painting, artists’ books, video and fine art prints, including a significant 1973 work by Ana Mendieta, alongside pieces from the University of Southampton Art Collection and WSA Artists’ Book Collection.
Featured artists include Michelle Aburrow, Tadek Beutlich, Gordon Bradshaw, Robert Chambers, Barry Flanagan, David Gentleman, Ana Mendieta, Ian Potts, Geoffrey Sutcliffe, Mette-Sofie Ambeck, Susan Collins, Stephen Cornford, Jane Cradock-Watson, Tacita Dean, Charles and Ray Eames, David Faithfull, Kate Farley, Susan Hiller, Stuart Mugridge, Paul Salt and Jonny Trunk.
Members of the WSA community taking part include Tyler Bennett, Ian Dawson, Luci Eldridge, Rosie Johnson, Anna Marris, Lucy May, Moss Pitcher, Lucie Smith, Julia Vogl, Lara Wells and Wallis Wright.
WSA MA Contemporary Curating students have also been involved throughout the project, with additional curation from Rulin Yu, Yue Li and XiaoYi Wu, alongside contributions from University researchers Professor Susan Gourvenec, Professor Blair Thornton and Cian McGuire.

🎨 Free art workshops will also take place during the British Science Festival, 16–20 September 2026.
