Hell I’m hanging the student Summer exhibition tomorrow and getting my studio ready. The Colour Factory is looking fabulous with all the refurbishments we carried out with the help of our friends. Come along and meet our artists, learn about our classes, and watch demonstrations. We open on Monday 23rd August. Lots to see in our gallery shop .
Yesterday was such a gorgeous time for drawing and painting en plein air in The Colour Factory garden. I had the class warm up with chalks and charcoal and then we started a painting from our lovely sitting model Kitty. Considered slow and fast recording on paper and card and we’re looking at the fabulous paintings byVanessa Bell - painter, interior designer and sister of Virginia Woolf.

This term I’m teaching inside and out. I’ve organised a lovely sitter and all classes are learning how to capture the sitter in the landscape . Drawing exercises first and then longer studies. This was chalks and charcoal. Next time it’s acrylic paints.

Tonight was week 5 of my evening class at The Colour Factory. Working on card board with acrylic paints and then drawing with pencil we followed Wallis. Did you know that he lost his mother as a child and aged nine went to work on sailing ships, traveling around the world ! His drawings and painting reflect his extensive knowledge of the sea. Artists like Ben Nicholson, Christopher Wood and Barbara Hepworth borrowed from him. Check him out at

Hello hope your all well. I’ve been quiet recently as it has been all hands on deck doing up The Colour Factory - teaching space, gallery, kitchen, garden and lots more! It’s been an amazing transformation all made possible with the enthusiasm and support of our own guardian Angel Marcus Swalwell and Wi******er Round Table -Sam Farzam and his team laying a new patio area and repairing our beach hut. We can’t thank them enough and we look forward to welcoming all our students and friends back. Our fresh new gallery doors are open today and you can book an appointment to visit and chat to any of our artists.
