St Paul’s Pre-school is a community-based charity that provides its children with a wonderful homely environment. Our highly-regarded staff encourage the children to progress at their own pace, using carefully planned activities, and both inside and outside play, to develop their social skills and confidence. Our provision is based on learning through play, with a balance between child-initiated and adult-led activities. Sessions are inspired by the seasons or items of special interest to the children. Each day’s discoveries are initiated by the children’s own sense of wonder. Each child is allocated a key worker with whom they are able to develop a special bond. The key-worker system allows your child to have a happy, positive relationship with a member of staff who can observe their development and enhance all learning opportunities on a truly individual basis. Observations and achievements are recorded and shared with parents on a regular basis through each child’s book, “My Learning Journal”. Communication with parents and carers is a particular strength at St Paul’s Pre-school. The pre-school follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which covers the pre-school and reception years of education and enables our key workers to ensure a seamless transition to the local primary schools.

🌿🪵 Why do we love our mud kitchen? 🪵🌿

A mud kitchen is so much more than getting messy! It provides children with endless opportunities to explore, imagine, create and learn through play. 🤎

👩‍🍳 Encourages imaginative play – children can become chefs, café owners, scientists or gardeners, creating their own stories and ideas.

🗣️ Builds communication & language – children chat, negotiate, share ideas and develop new vocabulary as they play together.

🧪 Supports early maths & science – mixing, measuring, counting, comparing, predicting and observing changes all happen naturally through play.

🤲 Develops physical skills – scooping, pouring, stirring, carrying and manipulating natural materials strengthen fine and gross motor skills.

🌱 Connects children with nature – mud, leaves, sticks, stones and water provide rich, open-ended sensory experiences.

🤝 Develops social skills – children learn to take turns, cooperate, solve problems and work together.

✨ Most importantly, it’s child-led! Children can take their play in any direction, using everyday and natural resources to create something completely their own.

🥕 Snack Time at St Paul’s Preschool 🍎

Snack time is so much more than simply having something to eat! It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their independence, confidence and decision-making skills. 💛

We offer a rolling lunch/snack time for an hour, allowing children to choose when they are ready to eat, rather than everyone sitting down at the same time. This gives them the freedom to listen to their own bodies and make choices for themselves.

The children are encouraged to:
🥄 Scoop and serve their own food
🥛 Pour their own drinks
🍎 Choose what they would like to eat
🧹 Take responsibility for tidying up afterwards

We also use books, photographs and visual resources to support the children in understanding healthy choices, trying new foods and developing positive mealtime habits.

These everyday routines are full of learning, building those important life skills while making snack time enjoyable, relaxed and child-led. 🌱

Chloë - Early Years Teacher

I have been a member of the St Paul’s bank team for the past year and am very excited to be taking on the role of SENCo from September.
I have always had a passion for inclusion and making sure every child feels valued, supported and able to thrive. Throughout my career, I have worked with children of a variety of ages in nurseries, preschools, mainstream schools and special educational needs settings. I love St Paul’s because it is such a warm, welcoming and inclusive setting and I feel fortunate to be part of the children's learning and development!

Rachel- Early Years Teacher

I have over 35 years experience working with young children, as a nanny and an Early Years Practitioner in pre schools.
I really enjoy working at St Pauls Pre school, and have been here 4 years.
I love encouraging each child to grow and develop confidence and independence through play and interaction.

Meet the team 👋- deputy supervisor

Hi, I’m Mel!

I have been part of the wonderful team at St Paul’s Preschool in Wi******er for the past four years, where I work as a Deputy Supervisor. I really enjoy being part of the children’s early years, supporting them as they learn, grow, build confidence and discover the world around them.

Outside of preschool, I’m a proud mum to my son, and we enjoy music festivals, being ninja warriors, building and rock climbing!

I have a degree in Psychology and have always had a strong interest in emotional wellbeing, relationships and understanding what helps people thrive. I’m currently studying to become a qualified Gestalt Counsellor and excited to complete my training this December.

I feel very fortunate to be able to bring together my experience in early years, psychology and counselling. I’m passionate about helping children feel heard, understood and valued, and supporting them to develop confidence in being exactly who they are. 💛
