We were so lucky to have a visit from Author, teacher and musician Banji Alexander (https://banjialexander.com). We got to sing with him too - you can hear the song here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grWMvZD9TlI

On the 20th May, we enjoyed another fantastic OPAL Stay and Play event, where all the staff from across the school were able to join in an additional playtime. It was wonderful to see our amazing activities on offer, including the new guinea pigs, as well as favourites such as den building where the children have benefitted from new kits and instruction from our Outdoor Learning lead. We are grateful for the recent donation of a piano; it was so lovely to hear some KS1 children learning how to play the instrument. We look forward to welcoming families to school for the final OPAL Stay and Play event of the year later in June.

🐹 Exciting news! 🐹
We are delighted to welcome our adorable new guinea pigs to the school family - Oreo, Cookie, Jelly Bean and Kit Kat!
The children are already enjoying learning about how to care for them, handle them gently, and make them feel safe and loved.
Our new furry friends will help teach responsibility, kindness, and confidence, and we can’t wait to share more updates and photos as they settle into their new home at school.
Be sure to ask your children if they’ve met our new furry friends yet! 🐾

In outdoor learning, we’ve been making the most of the fresh air and open space. From planting sunflower seeds and talking about what plants need to grow, to getting hands-on with paracord keyrings while learning essential knot skills, it’s been full of practical, memorable experiences.
We also put our problem-solving to the test by building our own versions of Da Vinci’s bridge—no nails, no glue, just teamwork, creativity, and a bit of trial and error! Watching everyone think like engineers and figure it out together was a real highlight.
Outdoor learning gives us the chance to explore, experiment, and connect with the world around us in ways the classroom can’t always offer. And of course… it’s a lot of fun too! ☀️

WOW! We had the most AMAZING musical performance at school today! We were joined by the Band and Bugles of the Rifles who are based at Worthy Down. There was singing, dancing, marching and so much excitement! Thank you so much for coming to play for us! I wonder who will be the first South Wonston pupil to join the band?

🌟 Exciting News from South Wonston Nursery (Ages 3–4) 🌟
From 13 April, our nursery will be open all year round, closing only for two weeks in the summer holidays and two weeks at Christmas.
This means families can now access consistent, high-quality nursery provision throughout the school holidays as well as term time, offering much greater flexibility and continuity for children.
Our nursery provides a warm, nurturing environment with strong links to the main school, helping children feel confident, settled and ready for their next steps in learning.
If you are looking for a nursery place for your child aged 3–4, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact us by email at [email protected] to find out more.
We look forward to welcoming new families to South Wonston Primary School Nursery.
