Who said writing has to start with a pencil?

For a learner who struggles with writing, I used LEGO DUPLO to capture their attention and make sentence building feel fun rather than overwhelming.

They could:
👉 Choose the verb they wanted
👉 Shorten the sentence if it felt too much
👉 Build it up at their own pace

And then… they did something even better. 💡

They came up with their OWN sentence! 🎉

That’s what success can look like — finding the right way in for the learner, reducing the pressure, and giving them ownership of their learning.

Today’s reading and writing tutoring session 📚✏️

I have a learner who needs a little extra help with engagement, so I included their Year 3 spelling words but made the session SpongeBob and football themed ⚽️🍍💙

They absolutely loved the session, and it was so lovely to see them engaged and enjoying their learning! 🥰

Sometimes it’s just about finding what they love and bringing it into learning ❤️

Today’s tutoring session was all about phonics and sentence building! 🌟

We used our visual widget to help structure the session, with movement breaks between each station to help our learner reset, refocus, and stay engaged. 💛

One of today’s highlights was a game of Twister that I came up with on the spot! Each colour represented a different phonics sound, and our learner had to find matching sounds hidden around the room. Learning through movement = a big win! 🎉

We also built sentences using Colourful Semantics, followed by a sticker reward chart to celebrate every success along the way. Seeing confidence grow through fun, personalised learning is the best part of what I do. ✨

Another lovely KS1 tutoring session today at Grow with Beth Tutoring! 💛

Today we explored tens and ones, practised recognising coins and money, and had fun counting in 2s. Watching confidence grow with every session is one of the best parts of what I do. Every child learns at their own pace, and it’s wonderful to see those little “lightbulb moments” along the way. 🌟

✨ You won’t believe how much learning we packed into one SEN tutoring session! 💙📚

Our first session was a huge success, and every activity was designed to make learning fun, engaging, and confidence-building.

🎯 Station 1: Phonics hoops – reading sounds hidden under each hoop.
🧱 Station 2: Spelling Jenga – practising spelling in a fun, hands-on way.
📝 Station 3: Sentence scramble – rearranging words to build complete sentences.

Seeing confidence grow through play-based learning is exactly why I love what I do. I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together in the coming weeks! 🌟

☀️ Summer learning made fun! ☀️

Today we explored multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 using place value. The hoops helped us choose our numbers, then the basketball game helped us decide whether to multiply or divide by 10 or 100 before changing the place value. 🏀🔢

Learning through play! 🎲➕➖

Today we practised addition and subtraction with exchanging using dice to make maths extra engaging and fun. The children loved the interactive element, and we increased the challenge by adding more place value to stretch their thinking and build confidence.

Making maths meaningful, hands-on, and enjoyable every step of the way! ✨
