We are part of The Lantern Church, Merley and meet in the Old Village Hall, Canford Magna providing a place where children are safe, secure & loved.

The Lantern Preschool is part of The Lantern Church, Merley and we meet in the Old Village Hall in Canford Magna which has been updated and modernised in recent years. We have a fantastic outside play area, including a playhouses, sandpit, large open space with trees, log seating circle, vegetable plot and mud kitchen.

We have been learning all about The FIFA World Cup this week. We have been learning about what is the World Cup? We talked about lots of different countries and looked at different flags and our globe. The children have been telling us about what football team their families support and what games they have watched at home. The children then pretended to play football on the tuff tray using pom poms and our Playmobil people.

Its been a roaring first week back after the May half term. The children have been busy being dinosaur archaeologists. They have been looking through different fossils, learning about which dinosaurs are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. They have also been pretending to hatch the dinosaurs in different size eggs and looking through both fictional and non-fictional books.

This week we are learning all about different bees, in aid of World Bee Day on the 20th June. We have been learning all about different types of bees, what they do, where they live, what they eat and how we can help them. We have also chatted about not getting too close to them as if they're scared they could sting. The children have seen some bees in our garden over the last couple of weeks and have been really curious about them. We hope after this week the children we know more about these beautiful little insects.

We dig dig dig!! For the last 2 weeks at The Lantern Preschool the children have been busy gardeners. We planted our potatoes, runner beans, salad and created our own Garden Centre. The children have had fun learning all about what plants need to grow. We then extended the children's learning by looking into different Minibeasts and how they can help the soil for our plants!

This week we have enjoyed celebrating World Earth Day. The children have been learning about how we can look after our world and their environment. We created our own Recycling Centre where the children sorted through different recycled materials.
Throughout the week we have also been reading and learning about God's Creation story.

We have all had a great first week back. After learning about the Artemis 2 mission, the children helped create our own rocket and Mission Control role play area. They used their phones to talk to each other, pretended to use laptops and clipboards to write down instructions. They then took turns in the rocket, counting down from 10 to pretend to go to space.

Its been a mad week here at The Lantern Preschool, where we have not stopped celebrating Easter! After our amazing Easter Celebration the children have been exploring our Easter tuff tray and taking part in an egg hunt in our garden. We have been talking about new life, creating nests for chicks and homes for rabbits. We hope all of our families have a great break and we will see you all on a Monday 13th April.

This term we have been weekly looking into the life of Jesus. We started off looking at Jesus as a child where he first started teaching God's word. We then continued looking at how Jesus lived. How he blessed everyone including children and then his many miracles. Jesus is a teacher, father, healer and friend to many. The children have loved learning all about Jesus on the run up to Easter. We hope they have been coming home telling you all about it. Its been a great series!

Thank you to all our families who came to our Easter Celebration this morning. The children did amazing with their Easter songs, and helping Caroline tell the parable of The Lost Sheep. We hope you enjoyed taking home all their Easter craft and yummy treats they have been busy making over the last 2 weeks. Our last day is on Friday 27th March. We will having fun over the next 2 days doing some egg hunts and learning more about the Easter story!
