Emerging from it's hibernation, the workshop leader is seen here rummaging through archeology boxes discarded at the end of term. Here he shifts through the remaining artefacts, with his fingers tightly crossed that there will be enough resources for the upcoming workshop season. Satisfied with his work, he curls up in the corner of the workshop, dreaming of the weeks that have passed and how he has enjoyed bonding with his own offspring and partner. An exciting new season is dawning, but he cherishes the last few moments of peace.

My lovely bowls from Annott's Pots! I have only used these once!

I made a lovely rich venison and ale pick me up over an open fire, cleaned and packed these away, and then loaded a bunch of stuff into my van like an animal.

Looks like I'm getting some more new bowls quicker than expected. 😭

Battles, investigations, item handling and debates (which I won) were all received well by the staff and kids.

Final Stone Age workshop of the academic year for me.

Don't worry though, two more weeks of Anglo Saxon, Viking, Medieval and Tudor to keep me going. That's not to mention The Roman, Ancient Egyptian and WW2 workshops by our other wonderful leaders.

This week has been challenging with the heat, but when you live what you do, the challenges just keep me on my toes.

No better way to keep cool in the heat!

In all seriousness, this activity was in the tree shade with a slight breeze, ice lollies and plenty of water.

So much has been done to stay cool and keep up the fun. The kids the last few days have been second to none! I'm so impressed with their attitudes and how we have gotten through.

I have been hydrated.
I have been wearing minimal kit.
I have been seeking out the coolest (still hot) spaces.
I have been taking all the breaks we needed.

All workshops have gone ahead successfully, but wow I'm pooped.

I'm still here! Just too distracted to post anything.

In the last few weeks I have been super busy storytelling, workshopping, sewing, painting, battling and familying (real word honest).

The rest of the team are working just as hard making summer 2 the best we can for a whole load of exhausted teachers. It's the push to the end of term and the beginning of 6 weeks of becoming human again.

Yesterday we were invited to cut and process lime bast with and . We were lucky to have a hands on experience of the whole process. A highly recommended course.

We harvested the bast, bundled it and left it to rett. With some fished from the pond and dried, we made two ply cordage. We crafted thorn tools to make it easier to split and handle. Finally we explored some new historical techniques for making cordage, meaning I can finally make three ply string and Rhi is starting a new weaving techniques journey too. 🧵 🪡

All of this learning is just part of the process of us making our knowledge of materials and historical crafts stronger. The more we learn, the more informed our teaching can be. Plus it was lovely spending the day in a forest with Rhi ❤️

This is work. Honest.
