Thank goodness that we can take 90 degree turns, change, find inner peace and gratitude even when this feels impossible.

Understanding self - your values, self belief, self trust, your thoughts, behaviour - why you respond in ways you do, relational dynamics and meaning in life are all examples which can be explored and supported in counselling.
Anxiety, confusion, powerlessness, depression, compulsive behaviour, anger, sadness and grief are not comfortable places to survive and be in.

You don’t need to feel like you have to survive persistent emotions of low mood, lethargy, feeling disconnected, alone and sadness on your own. It is possible to recover and find pleasure in your life again. A safe space in counselling can support and help you to find the pathway back to a happier place of being. DM if you’d like a complimentary phone call to explore this in more depth.

Do you know how to recharge your batteries? Do you need to rest, be in nature, be energetic, meet a friend, have some fun or be creative? Clients come to me often not knowing what their own needs are. It can seem easier to help others, at the expense of forgetting self. Taking care of self will empower you to feel good inside and then you can be the best version of yourself for others. I liken this to the analogy of the importance of putting your own oxygen mask on first before helping others. www.changingmyfuture.co.uk

Investing in yourself requires intention. Clients often say to me “but it feels selfish”. Our culture can often instil this unconscious belief.

Increasing the skill of self awareness and mindfulness living will help you to identify unconscious patterns of thinking and behaviour.

This way of being present can be self learnt and counselling can facilitate this journey. .changingmyfuture.co.uk.

Being present, experiencing the moment, self awareness and mindful living is a skill. It’s a way of being that sets us free from our minds never ending chatter.

“Leah” (name changed), a woman in her late 30s, reached out for support after years of struggling with self-worth. On the outside, she appeared capable — but inside, she constantly questioned her value and feared being judged or “not good enough.”

Presenting issue:

Leah described a long-standing pattern of people-pleasing, perfectionism, and self-criticism. She often compared herself to others and found it hard to accept praise. Her inner dialogue was harsh and rarely gave her credit for her achievements or efforts. She felt frustrated that she was always comfort eating and dieting.

Therapeutic process:

In our sessions, we gently explored the roots of her self-esteem challenges — including past experiences of feeling unseen and emotionally invalidated. Using a person-centred and integrative approach, we worked on self-compassion, emotional awareness, and challenging critical inner narratives.

We also used a CBT model including elements of psychoeducation, helping Leah build a stronger inner voice and recognise her strengths with more balance and realism.

Outcome:

Over time, Leah developed a more kind and grounded relationship with herself. She began to speak up for her needs, noticed when she was falling into comparison, and slowly started trusting that she didn’t need to prove her worth to be accepted. One of the most powerful moments in our work was when she said, “I’m learning to feel enough — just as I am.”
