Quiet, private, darkened rooms will help you feel calm, safe and secure. If you are planning to birth at home you can make a space that has all the elements you find comforting and calming. In a hospital setting you can take items in with you that will be comforting such as your own music, pillow, blanket or birthball. You can ask for the lights to be dimmed and for people to be unobtrusive when they are around you.
