This week, Play Mandarin children became little detectives and stepped into five mystery worlds — from the jungle and outer space, to pirate maps, museum paintings and dinosaur discoveries. 🦖

They did not just “learn Chinese characters”.

They followed clues, completed missions and worked together, while naturally recognising, reading, speaking and even writing Hanzi along the way.

To be a Hanzi detective, children had to:

這一週，玩中文的孩子們化身小小漢字偵探，走進五個神祕世界——從叢林、太空，到海盜藏寶圖、博物館名畫，還有恐龍考古現場。🦖

孩子們不只是「學漢字」。

他們跟著線索、完成任務、一起合作，也在過程中自然認字、讀字、說中文，甚至把漢字寫出來。

想成為漢字小偵探，孩子需要：

🥕 Why do some words stay with children after class?

Sometimes, it is not about repeating the word again and again.
It is about helping children step into the word through play.

Take “carrot”, for example.

It can be shown as a picture, or it can be hidden in the soil as a little mission. 🥕

Suddenly, “carrot” becomes a surprise, a task, a story — maybe even something to feed to a hungry rabbit. 🐰

Children look, touch, pull, say the word, and connect language with action and memory.

That is why a good children’s Mandarin lesson gives children a reason to use the word.

🥕 為什麼有些單字，孩子教完就忘；有些卻下課了還一直念？

🤖✨ AI Transform! Children’s ideas came to life!

This week, Play Mandarin children started with one simple sentence — and watched it turn into pictures, stories, short films, games and even songs. 🎵

They first met AI, then quickly discovered that giving instructions is not just about saying anything.

They had to think:

“What should I say?”
“How can I make it clearer?”
“What should I change if the result is not right?”

Then our little AI detectives got to work. 🔍

They learnt to look carefully, ask questions and think again:

👀 Look｜Is anything strange?
🙋 Ask｜Who can help me check?
🤔 Think｜Is this real? Does it make sense?

Later in the week, children became little creators and inventors.

🎬 They became directors and turned ideas into short films.
🎮 They designed games with their own rules.
🎵 They created songs from their imagination.

From “What is AI?” to “I made this!”, we saw children think, ask, try, create and proudly share their ideas.

At Play Mandarin, AI learning is not only about using technology.
It is about helping children observe, question, express and create — while using Mandarin along the way.

AI can generate many things, but the most precious ideas always come from children themselves. 💛

🤖✨ AI 變變變！孩子的想法，真的變出來了！

這一週，玩中文的孩子們從「一句話」開始，看著它變成圖片、故事、小電影、遊戲，甚至是一首屬於自己的歌。🎵

一開始，孩子們先認識 AI，也很快發現，想讓 AI 聽懂，可不是隨便說說就可以！

孩子們要思考：

「要說什麼？」
「怎麼說得更清楚？」
「如果結果不對，要怎麼改？」

接著，AI 小偵探出動！🔍

孩子們學會停下來觀察、提出問題、再想一想：

👀 看一看｜有沒有哪裡怪怪的？
🙋 問一問｜不確定時，可以問老師、爸爸媽媽，或一起找答案
🤔 想一想｜這是真的嗎？合理嗎？

到了後半週，孩子們更變身成 AI 小小創作家與發明家。

🎵 把創意寫進歌曲裡，讓點子真的「唱」出來

從第一天的「AI 是什麼？」
到最後興奮地說：「這是我做的！」

短短五天，我們看到孩子敢想、敢問、敢試，也更願意把自己的想法說出來。💡

在玩中文，我們想帶給孩子的，不只是「學會使用 AI」，而是學會觀察、提問、判斷、創作，也用中文一步一步把想像變成作品。

AI 可以生成很多東西，

🎬 Why does one child fully join in, while another does not respond to the same game at all?

Sometimes, it is not because the game is not fun.

It may be because the learning entry point only works for one type of learner.

👂 Some children understand through listening
👀 Some children need to see it first
🤸 Some children need to move before they truly engage

This is an important step for children’s Mandarin teachers to think about when designing activities.

In Play Mandarin In-Person Teacher Training, we start from real classroom examples. You will observe children, break down activities and practise teaching, so you can see the teaching design behind each classroom game.

✨ Play Mandarin Taiwan Culture Week — stepping into Taiwan with our children!

Over five days of cultural adventure, children explored Taiwan through food, crafts, folk traditions, night market fun and Indigenous culture. They observed with their eyes, created with their hands, and discovered Taiwan through Mandarin.

From sweet and tangy tanghulu, creative fan printing, to glove puppetry, dough figurines and Indigenous straw hats, every day brought new discoveries and lots of bright smiles.

🚀 “Rocket Launch!”

In a Play Mandarin classroom, even “please sit back down” can become a game.

Instead of repeating “sit down”, “be quiet” or “stop talking”, the teacher turns the instruction into something children understand and want to join in.

When the teacher says “火箭發射!”, children fly back to their seats with big smiles, ready for the next activity.

It looks like play, but children are actually practising listening, following classroom routines and moving smoothly between activities.

This is one of the most interesting parts of teaching Mandarin to children.

It is not only about planning exciting activities.
It is about turning instructions, transitions and classroom rules into learning moments children enjoy.
