A handful of ribbons, and a little boy having a brilliant time waving them around!
But while he’s busy playing, he’s also listening to the music, responding to what he hears, coordinating his movements and learning to copy actions.

We don’t need learning to feel like a lesson. We use music, movement and play to make it something children naturally want to be part of.
Show the fun. There’s plenty of learning happening underneath.

Recognising. Remembering. Anticipating. Joining in.
It’s what starts to happen when a song becomes familiar.

The first time, your little one might simply watch. After hearing it again, they begin to recognise it.
Soon they know what’s coming next and before long, they’re joining in with the actions without waiting for us to show them!

That’s why repetition and routine are such important parts of our class.

We’re giving them the opportunity to really learn what they’re doing, build confidence and gradually do more for themselves.

It’s their song. They know it. And they’re very proud that they do 🥹

Learning Through Music. That’s what Magical Music & Movement is all about!

Beep beep beep! 🚗🎶
To him, he’s driving his car with his hoop and joining in with a song he knows.

But look at everything happening in this little moment.
He’s listening to the music, recognising what the song is asking him to do, copying the action and connecting the words he hears with the movement he makes.

And because the song is familiar, he knows what’s coming. He can anticipate the action and join in with more confidence and independence.

That’s exactly what Learning through music looks like at Magical Music and Movement.

Not sitting down to be taught. Not being asked to perform. Just singing, moving, imagining, copying and learning while having a brilliant time. đź’›

If your little one spends a class sitting on your lap and taking everything in, please don’t worry that they’re “not joining in”. They are. Just in their own way.

They’re listening to the songs, watching their teacher, noticing what the other children are doing and beginning to understand the rhythm and routine of the class.

Then they come back and it’s a little more familiar. Until one day, they recognise a song. They know which action is coming. They reach for something before you do.

We never rush children to perform at Magical Music.
Watching is the first step towards joining in independently 🎶

From their first watch to joining in all by themselves, we’d love to be part of the journey. Find your local class at magical-music.com 💛

If you’ve been coming to Magical Music for a while, there’s a good chance you’ve heard some of our songs more than once. Or twice. Or… quite a few times. That’s very deliberate!

The first few times a child hears a song, they might simply watch. Then they begin to recognise it. Soon they know what’s coming next, start copying an action and eventually join in without any help at all.

Watch → recognise → anticipate → copy → join in → do it independently.

Repetition gives little ones the chance to really learn something, rather than constantly moving on to something new.

We’re giving them the familiarity they need to learn, build confidence and eventually do more for themselves.
That’s Learning Through Music 💛

There’s something really lovely about watching siblings experience Magical Music together. 🎶

Younger children naturally watch the people around them, and an older sibling can be a brilliant person to copy - whether they’re clapping along to a song, choosing an instrument, following an action or getting up to dance.

But it works both ways.

A shared activity gives siblings opportunities to take turns, cooperate, laugh together and experience something as a pair rather than always being at completely different stages.

It’s one of the reasons we love welcoming siblings into our classes - and why siblings always come FREE at Magical Music & Movement. 💛

To them, it’s a colourful piece of fabric floating through the air. But there’s lots going on behind those little eyes.

Watching a scarf move helps babies practise visual tracking as their eyes follow it from side to side and up and down. Reaching out to grab it encourages hand-eye coordination, while touching, scrunching and pulling introduces different sensory experiences.

Then there’s the fun of peekaboo - beginning to understand that something still exists even when they can’t see it.

And as they get a little bigger, scarves become something to wave, throw, dance with and copy actions with too.

Such a simple class prop, but so many opportunities to explore, play and learn. 🎶✨

Did you know that children who engage with music from an early age develop better language skills, coordination, and memory? Research shows that music activates more areas of the brain than almost any other activity!

Rhythm is something little ones gradually learn to recognise.

At first, they might simply listen. Then you’ll notice them starting to sway, bounce or clap. Eventually, they begin anticipating what comes next and trying to match their movements to the music.

All those little moments are helping develop listening skills, coordination, timing and body awareness - skills that continue to grow as they do. đź’›

That’s why we use so much rhythm, repetition and movement in our Magical Music classes.

They might not be keeping perfect time just yet but every shake, clap and stomp is helping them find their rhythm. 🎵

It can be easy to look around a class and wonder why your little one isn’t copying the actions, singing along or getting stuck in like some of the other children.

But sitting back and watching doesn’t mean they’re not learning.

Little ones learn so much through observation. They’re listening to the songs, watching how other children move, noticing what their teacher is doing and beginning to understand the rhythm and routine of the class.

For some children, they need to watch something several times before they feel confident enough to have a go themselves. And then one week, seemingly out of nowhere, they know the actions, anticipate what’s coming next or wander over to join in without you.

There’s never any pressure to perform at Magical Music & Movement. Whether they’re right in the middle of everything or taking it all in from the safety of your lap, they’re still part of the class. 🎶✨
