🥋 WHY DO SENIOR BELTS TEACH JUNIOR BELTS? 🥋

At Wixams Tang Soo Do, progressing through the grades isn’t only about learning more techniques — it’s also about learning how to pass that knowledge on.

When a senior belt helps teach a junior student, something interesting happens…

Suddenly, it’s not enough to simply know a technique.

You have to understand it well enough to explain it.

🥋 Why does the foot turn that way?
🥋 Where should the stance finish?
🥋 What is the hand doing?
🥋 Why do we chamber first?
🥋 How can I explain this differently if someone doesn’t understand?

Teaching makes us look more closely at our own Tang Soo Do.

It develops:

⭐ Deeper understanding — explaining a technique exposes the little details we might otherwise overlook.

⭐ Leadership — senior grades learn to guide, encourage and set an example.

⭐ Communication — not everyone learns in the same way. Good instructors learn to adapt.

⭐ Patience & humility — sometimes teaching someone else reminds us just how much there is still to learn ourselves.

⭐ Confidence — sharing knowledge helps senior students recognise how far they have come.

And our junior students gain something equally important: someone a few steps ahead of them to look up to, learn from and aspire to become.

In Tang Soo Do, we don’t climb the ladder and pull it up behind us.

We reach back and help the next person climb. 🥋❤️

Learn it. Practise it. Understand it. Teach it.

A big thank you to KJN Nar today for leading us. It is always a honour and privilege to train with you.

Today we were practicing self defence, being ready for anything and learning to let go of fear.
