🦉👩‍🚒 People Who Help Us! 👮‍♀️👩‍⚕️☕️

What a busy and exciting start to the week in Owls! 💛

This week we are learning all about people who help us and finding out about the different jobs they do in our community.

Today, the children had lots of fun pretending to be firefighters! 🚒🔥 They used the hose to put out the fires and had a great time talking about how firefighters help people and keep us safe. 💦👩‍🚒

We also headed out to Oakenclough Children’s Centre Café ☕️🥐 where we explored what it’s like to work in a café. The children had a look at the menu, talked about the different things they could see and found out more about what café workers do. They then finished off their trip by exploring the community gardens and talking about the fruit and vegetables they could see growing!

We have lots more exciting experiences planned for the rest of the week, and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next! 🥰🦉✨

🦉 Real-Life Skills in the Owls Room! 🦉

This morning, our older children in the Owls room dived into the brand-new magical world of the deep dark wood with Gruffalo Granny by Julia Donaldson.

To bring the story to life, the children made their very own batch of "granny stew." This was a fantastic way to practice important real-life skills:

Careful Cutting: Using child-safe knives under close adult supervision, the children practiced their coordination by chopping vegetables into neat batons.

Teamwork & Mixing: Everyone took turns working together to mix all the fresh ingredients into the pot.

Cooking and imaginative play help build fine motor skills, confidence, and a love for storytelling. Well done, Owls! 🥣✨

Staff Appreciation ✨️

This week we wanted to shout out one of our Lunch Time Assistants Katie! Katie has been with us now for 5 months and in that time has become a valuable part of the team. She comes in every day with positive energy and a big smile on her face 😊

She mainly works in the Bunnies and Squirrels rooms, and holds lots of amazing qualities, such as her caring and nurturing nature.

Thank you Katie for everything you do, the children and staff all love you ❤️

🍂Autumn Flower Potions🌸

This morning, our Squirrels have been enjoying exploring our Autumn flower potion tuff tray!

The children loved scooping, pouring, mixing and investigating the different flowers and natural materials 💛 They used their senses to explore the different colours, textures and smells, whilst also developing their fine motor skills and imagination along the way.

🌟 STAFF DEVELOPMENT & BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT TRAINING 🌟

Last week, our team came together for one of our regular staff meetings, and we used part of our time together to take part in behaviour management training. 💛

Supporting children through their emotions and behaviours is such an important part of working in the Early Years. Our training gave us the opportunity to reflect on our current practice, share ideas and discuss different strategies we can use to support our children in a positive and consistent way. 🧠🌈

We explored the importance of understanding what is behind a child’s behaviour, recognising their individual needs and helping children to develop the skills they need to express their feelings, communicate their needs and manage big emotions. ❤️

We also discussed how important it is for us as practitioners to remain calm, patient and consistent, while creating a safe and supportive environment where every child feels understood and valued. 🥰

At Footsteps Nursery, we believe that staff development is an ongoing journey. Continuing to learn, reflect and develop our knowledge allows us to provide the very best support and experiences for the children in our care. 🌟

Today our fox cubs read the hungry caterpillaer then headed outdoors for a bug hunting adventure! 🔎🌿

With curious minds and magnifying glasses at the ready, the children searched high and low to see what tiny creatures they could discover. 🐛🐌🐞

Bug hunting is such a fantastic way for children to learn about the natural world while developing:

🔎 Curiosity and observation skills
🧠 Thinking and problem-solving
🗣️ Language and communication
🤝 Teamwork and sharing discoveries
🌱 Respect and care for living things

We talked about where the bugs might live, what they might eat and how we can carefully observe them without causing harm. 💚

Sometimes the smallest creatures create the biggest learning opportunities! 🐜✨

Creative play is so much more than making a lovely picture or getting messy with paint! 🖌️🎨

When children are given the freedom to create, explore and use their imaginations, they are developing so many important skills along the way. 💭💡

Through creative play, children can:

🌟 Build confidence and self-expression
🧠 Develop problem-solving and thinking skills
✋ Strengthen fine motor skills
🗣️ Develop language and communication
💞 Explore emotions and express their feelings
🌈 Use their imagination and develop creativity
🤝 Learn to share ideas, cooperate and work together

Most importantly, there doesn't always need to be a right or wrong way to create! ❤️

A cardboard box can become a rocket, a stick can become a magic wand, and a handful of paint can become anything a child imagines! 🚀🪄🎨

When we give children the time, space and freedom to explore their creativity, we're not just creating art — we're helping children create, discover and learn about the world around them. 🌍✨

Let them get messy. Let them explore. Let them imagine. Let them create. 💕
