World Ocean Day Fun ππ¬
This week, some of our younger children celebrated World Ocean Day, by exploring a wonderful beach and sea life themed tuff tray!
The children enjoyed using spoons to scoop and pour rice, helping to develop their fine motor skills, while engaging in imaginative play. They explored a variety of sea creatures and used their hands to investigate the different textures within the tray.
To reflect inclusion and diversity, our beach scene featured people of different nationalities and abilities, including wheelchair users, to promote celebration of differences!

π§οΈ Rainy days can be full of learning and discovery! π§οΈ
Why not try making your own rain catcher at home? It's a simple and fun way for children to explore the weather, develop observation skills, and learn about how much rain falls each day.
Check out the image below for easy step-by-step instructions. We'd love to see your finished rain catchers and hear about your weather discoveriesβfeel free to share your photos in the comments! βπ§

Every child develops in their own time, and thatβs exactly how it should be π
At Footsteps, we believe in letting children grow, learn and explore at their own pace β without pressure and without rushing. Childhood isnβt a race, and thereβs no finish line to reach before anyone else.
Some children will run ahead in certain areas, others will take their time β and thatβs completely okay. What matters most is that they feel confident, supported, and happy as they learn in their own way.
Weβre here to guide them, encourage them, and celebrate every small step forward, no matter how long it takes π±β¨

π Why Fine Motor Skills Matter π
Fine motor skills are the small movements children make using their hands and fingers β and they are so important in early childhood development ββοΈ
Developing these skills helps children with:
π Holding pencils and mark making
βοΈ Using scissors safely
𧩠Building independence with dressing and feeding
𧡠Hand-eye coordination and concentration
At nursery, we support fine motor development through fun activities such as:
β¨ Playdough
β¨ Threading and puzzles
β¨ Painting and drawing
β¨ Building and construction
Below are some ways you can support these skills at home β€οΈ
Little hands are always busy learning!

The children have loved watching our caterpillars grow and transform into beautiful butterflies! ππ¦
We have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly and observing each stage closely, from tiny caterpillars to chrysalises and finally butterflies. The children were so excited to see the amazing transformation happen right before their eyes.
It has been a wonderful hands-on learning experience and a great opportunity to develop curiosity about the natural world.

This week we have been recognising Deaf Awareness Week in nursery. The children have enjoyed reading stories about cochlear implants and hearing aids, helping them to understand more about the experiences of people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We have also been learning about ways we can communicate more effectively and respectfully, such as facing the person when speaking and making sure we do not cover our mouths with our hands so that facial expressions and lip movements can be seen clearly.
It has been a wonderful opportunity to promote kindness, inclusion, and understanding across our classroom. π
