🔴 Black Country Day: From Smoke to Sustainability — A New Chapter in Our Story 🌱
Today, on Black Country Day, we celebrate a region forged in fire — once darkened by the smoke of coal and iron, but now lighting the way to a cleaner, greener future.
The name “Black Country” comes from our industrial roots — a landscape blackened by soot, powered by furnaces and factories that helped build modern Britain. We wore that name with pride. We still do. But today, the world has changed — and so must we.
💨 Homes across the West Midlands, especially in the Black Country, are still some of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions. Poor insulation, outdated heating, and rising energy bills are hitting our communities hard.
But where there’s a problem — the Black Country builds a solution.
🔧 Introducing the DEA/RA Bootcamp — Funded by WMCA
We’re proud to launch a fully funded DEA/RA Bootcamp — right here in the Black Country — to train the next generation of energy professionals.
These bootcamps will equip local people with the skills to:
✅ Assess homes for energy efficiency
✅ Recommend retrofit solutions
✅ Help families save money
✅ Cut carbon emissions at the source
This is more than training. It’s a chance to lead the region into its next industrial revolution — a green one.
🌍 This Black Country Day, we honour our past by transforming our future.
If you're from the Black Country and want to be part of this transition, there's never been a better time. The WMCA is covering the cost — all you need to bring is your drive to make a difference.
