A fantastic start to Devon County Council’s Inclusion and Learning Services Conference this morning!

Our Deputy Head/Hub Lead, Debbie Kent, led a rousing Wake and Shake session, sharing the power of music to support positive mental health with over 300 colleagues from across Devon.

Debbie is also the founder and Musical Director of Teachers Rock, whose ‘Rise Up!’ initiative in support of YoungMinds champions the positive impact of music on wellbeing.

We're looking for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive individual to join our Operations Team as an Administration & Logistics Co-ordinator.

Based in Willand, near Cullompton, this permanent full-time role offers a varied mix of administration, event support, and coordinating the delivery of musical instruments to schools across the Hub area.

📍 Location: Willand, Devon
💷 Salary: £26,847-£27,274 per annum
🕒 Hours: 37 hours per week
📅 Closing Date: Friday 23 October 2026

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting music education across Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay, helping children and young people access music-making opportunities. We’re thrilled to announce that Bob Chilcott ‘Don’t Go Extinct!’ has won the 2026 Making Music Commissioning Award 🎼

Commissioned by the Budleigh Music Festival in collaboration with Devon Music Education Hub, this call to care for the environment gave children the opportunity to perform a work created especially for them.

Our Devon Youth Folk Ensemble (DYFE) are off to the Royal Albert Hall! The Ensemble have been selected to play at the Music for Youth Proms in November, after impressive performances at the Regional Music for Youth Festival in Devon in March and the National Festival in Birmingham in July. The Proms are being held over two nights on 9-10 November, and DYFE will be on stage on the second night. A big shout out to the Devon Music Education Hub for supporting DYFE and for sponsoring our coach transport to London on the day.

🎶 HUGE thanks to Uffculme School for stepping in at extremely short notice to host today’s KS4 Set Works LIVE! Day after a pesky squirrel scuppered our plans at St Peter's Church of England Aided School! 🐿️

Throughout the day, Patrick Bailey and musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra were joined by over 200 young people from across our Hub area.

This morning’s brilliant Come and Play Workshop saw students from Uffculme School, Queen Elizabeth's School, and Okehampton College perform music by Queen and Toto. This afternoon, we were joined by more young people from The King's School Ottery St Mary, KEVICC, Eggbuckland Community College, and Newton Abbot College for a fantastic BSO concert featuring works by Bach, Bartók, Will Goodchild and Steve Reich, alongside exciting new music inspired by themes suggested by our students.

A huge thank you to all the schools involved, the Hub team, BSO Participate, and especially Uffculme School for helping us ensure this event could go ahead 🎶
