One final job for our Year 6s before they left us for pastures new! A small group of them having composed a letter to our local MP, Markus Campbell-Savours MP, and the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, to share their thoughts and opinions on the cuts and reduction to the PE and Sport Premium. The PE and Sport Premium is a key component to how successful we have become at various sports over the last few years.

They have came up with their ideas as a group, and how it will impact future children as there will be less money available for PE in the future. They also shared their personal experiences with the external coaches and tournaments that they have been able to attend.

Huge thank you to Erinn, Alba, Rosie, Isla, Amber, Ted and Bobby for taking their time to write these letters. It means a lot to us as a school! ✍️

We are delighted to announce that we, Thomlinson Junior School, have once again achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:
- 95% of children representing TJS in a sporting event - in particular we had 83 footballers, 32 swimmers and over 40 cross country runners;
-9x Football Event Trophies;
-Both Year 3/4 Boys and Girls Football Teams winning the City Finals;
-Cumbria Sports Awards Junior Team of the Year (Year 6 Girls' Football);
-Year 6 Girls' Football Team representing Cumbria in the Northern Finals;
-Year 6 Girls' Football Team representing Carlisle United in Regional and National Finals;
-Retaining Carlisle Schools' Track and Field Championship Team Trophy;
-12x 1st Place Finishes in the Carlisle Schools' Track and Field Championship;
-6x children representing Carlisle at the County Cross Country, with 1x representing the county in the Nationals;
-Year 4 children representing TJS in U-Dance;
-4 podium finishes in the Carlisle Schools' Swimming Gala;
-1st, 3rd and 5th place Team finishes in the Wigton Schools' Gala;
-Successful Panathlon events in Multi-Skills, Boccia and especially Kurling where we made the County Finals.

On top of all the team and individual success, it has also been so good to watch lots of children go out of their comfort zones to represent TJS in various events which they may not have done in the past, and the confidence this has now given these children is clear to see.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition and workforce, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. With a total of 217 young people across the school competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport - what a brilliant time it is to be a part of PE and School Sport at Thomlinson Junior School!

Well done everyone!
