Year 1 from Kells Infant School joined us today to learn about the local environment.

They made maps of our woodland, carefully relating positions of features to eachother and went on a 'Go find it' treasure hunt.

Lots of drink breaks kept us hydrated and the woodland canopy kept the sun at bay. A hot day but still lots of fun.

Bookings for our family fun sessions this summer holiday open @ 6pm this Friday.

They loved making their own plants using nature as well as using songs, games, stories and making plant passports to help them remember what they had learned.

Yesterday we had Y2 from Kells Infant School join us to support their learning about the local environment.

They learned about the different micro habitats found in a woodland, the animals that live there and the food chains that exist.

Another Y3 class from Inglewood Junior School returned today for their last session of the year.

The children were great at using scientific vocabulary to help them explain the stages of the life cycle of plants. Lots of fun activities helped to make their learning come alive.

Making tiny fires was another highlight of the day.

What a great year it has been with year 3. It's been wonderful to see how the children have grown in confidence. Well done everyone!

Today was their last session of the year for a year 3 class from Inglewood Junior School

The children loved learning about the life cycle of flowering plants through stories, drama, games and crafts, including making and testing helicopter spinner seeds.

Wow what an afternoon! Mud mountain was the scene of teams trying to keep hold of a trophy. Musical notes floated through the air as different pitches were made during experimentation with different materials. The pond was dipped and children used their imaginations to great effect.

What a fab day!

Girls from 1st Whitehaven Guides joined us this evening.

We had a lot of fun playing active games, making s'mores, lighting fires as well as teaching them how to whittle sticks using a knife and square lashing. What a busy evening. You were all fab!

We hosted a birthday party this afternoon. A huge den was made, lots of games of hide & seek played, fires were built and managed and a range of creatures were found in the pond. Delicious s'mores were washed down with hot chocolate.

Year 1 & 2 from Flimby Primary visited us today.

They learned how different materials can be used because of their properties.

There was lots of excitement building houses to keep our resident big, bad wolf away!

A newt and dragonfly nymph were some of the creatures found in the pond.

What a great end to our week of school visits before a birthday party for a child and their friends tomorrow.

More year 3 children from Inglewood Junior School joined us today for their sketch map themed session. They produced some great sketch maps showing their understanding of the relative positions of physical and human geographical features of the woodland.

Lots of children cleaved wood for the fire during their flow time. There's so many skills required to cleave wood: positioning it carefully, knocking it into the blade to hold it, hitting it with the appropriate force at the appropriate angle, keeping others at a safe distance, not putting a hand near the blade and more! The children showed great respect for the tools and really focussed on the task.
