What a wonderful morning we have had celebrating our Patronal Service at St Wilfrid’s Parish Church today.

St Wilfrid was an English bishop and missionary who lived in the 7th century. He dedicated his life to sharing the Christian faith, supporting communities and helping people to grow in their faith. As the patron saint of our school, St Wilfrid reminds us of the importance of faith, service, courage and caring for others — values that we strive to live out every day at St Wilfrid’s.

Our Year 5 children did a fantastic job leading the service, sharing readings, prayers and reflections as we came together as a school community to celebrate St Wilfrid and all that our school stands for.

It was lovely to see our children taking on such important roles with confidence and reverence. Their contributions helped make the service a very special occasion, and we are incredibly proud of them.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the service possible, including our wonderful church community and all those who supported the children in preparing for the morning.

Our Patronal Service was a special opportunity to come together, reflect on our Christian values and celebrate our shared faith and the strong relationship between St Wilfrid’s Church and St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy.

⭐️ St Wilfrid’s Spotlight – Calling Our Former Pupils! ⭐️

We need your help! 💙

We are nearly at the end of our current St Wilfrid’s Spotlights, and we would love to keep this wonderful initiative going!

We are looking for former St Wilfrid’s pupils who would be willing to share their journey with our current children. It doesn’t matter how long ago they attended St Wilfrid’s, what they went on to study, or what career they have chosen – every story is unique and has the power to inspire our children. 🌟

Our St Wilfrid’s Spotlight initiative gives our children the opportunity to discover what former pupils have gone on to achieve and helps them to see the many different possibilities open to them as they grow and learn.

We would love to hear from former pupils who are:
🎓 Still studying or at university
💼 Just starting their jobs/career
💼 Have been working in their career or profession for many years
👩‍⚕️👨‍🔧👩‍🏫 Working in a particular profession or trade
🌍 Working or living somewhere interesting
🏡 Have taken a different or unexpected career path
🌟 Retired from work and have a story or career journey to share

It really doesn’t matter whether you have just started your working life, have been in your career for many years, or have now retired – we would love to hear your story!

Taking part is quick and easy. Former pupils simply answer a few questions and record their responses on their phone. We’ll do the rest! We also ask for a photograph from their time at St Wilfrid’s and one showing them in their current role or life.

📣 So, parents and carers, please have a think! Do you have an older child, family member, friend, neighbour or someone you know who was once a pupil at St Wilfrid’s and might be willing to take part?

We would really appreciate your help in finding some new Spotlights. We have loved sharing these stories with our children and would be delighted to continue the initiative.

Today, we were delighted to welcome members of the Shevington High School team to St Wilfrid’s to spend time with our Year 5 and Year 6 children.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to find out more about life at high school, ask questions and begin thinking about the exciting journey that lies ahead. It is never too early to start building those connections and helping our children feel confident about the next step in their education.

The Shevington team shared information about life at the school, the opportunities available to children and what they can look forward to as they move into secondary education.

⏰ 4.00pm – 7.00pm
📍 Shevington High School, Shevington Lane, Wigan, WN6 8AB

There is no need to book – families can simply drop in between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. The evening is a great opportunity to explore the school, meet staff and current students, and get a real feel for life at Shevington.

We would encourage our Year 5 and Year 6 families to take the opportunity to visit, ask questions and explore what Shevington High School has to offer.

We were busy bees in Nursery last week, jumping straight into so many exciting learning adventures!

To celebrate National Poetry Day, our little explorers went on a thrilling sound walk around the school grounds. We cupped our ears to listen carefully to the rustling leaves, chirping birds, and crunching footsteps, collecting all those wonderful sounds to help us co-create our very own class poem!

In our small world area, imaginations were running wild as the children made up their own fantastic stories and adventures. Over in the construction zone, we added sand to our building materials, which sparked so much creativity—the children loved scooping, pouring, and building brand-new textures into their structures.

Storytime was a massive highlight of our week, and we used our favourite books as a launching pad to practise our counting skills in fun, hands-on ways.

Finally, we got active and messy during our Write Dance session! The children used paint to make bold, expressive marks, moving their whole bodies to music to build up the strength coordination needed for early writing.

What a busy, joyful, and creative week it was—well done, Nursery!

🍕✨ Pizza & Praise – What a wonderful evening! ✨🍕

Tonight we had the joy of welcoming back last year’s Confirmation group for a special Pizza & Praise evening. It was so lovely to see everyone again, catch up on what they’ve been doing and hear a little about their faith journeys since Confirmation.

There was plenty of pizza, laughter, conversation and fellowship, but most importantly, time to reconnect as a group and remember that our journey of faith doesn’t end when we are confirmed – it continues as we grow, learn, question and discover what our faith means to us.

It was wonderful to see friendships renewed and to share stories, encouragement and a few slices of pizza along the way! 🍕😊

A huge thank you to everyone who came and helped make the evening so special. We look forward to continuing to journey together and supporting our young people as they live out their faith with courage, joy and hope. ✝️💛

World Teachers’ Day 2026

Today we celebrate teachers and school staff everywhere — and we are especially thankful for the amazing team here at St Wilfrid’s.

Every day, our teachers and staff give so much more than lessons. They give their time, their patience, their encouragement and their belief in every child. They notice the small things, celebrate the big things, pick children up when things feel difficult and continually look for ways to help every child flourish.

Teaching is not simply about passing on knowledge. It is about inspiring, nurturing, encouraging and helping children to discover who they are and what they can become.

Today, we also look to Jesus, our greatest teacher. Jesus taught not only through His words, but through the way He lived — with compassion, patience, kindness, forgiveness and love. He welcomed everyone, listened to others, encouraged those who were struggling and helped people see their own worth and potential.

“Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.”
— Matthew 11:29

These words remind us that great teaching is about the heart as much as the head.

So today, we say a huge THANK YOU to every member of our St Wilfrid’s team.

Thank you for the early mornings, the late afternoons, the planning, the marking, the conversations, the encouragement, the creativity, the patience and the countless things that happen behind the scenes. Thank you for believing in our children, for helping them to grow in confidence and knowledge, and for creating a school where they know they are loved, valued and able to flourish.

We are incredibly proud of William in Year 3, who has been awarded what must be the biggest trophy ever!

William’s Under 8s football team, JN Sports, have had an amazing season, winning the Junior Development League 2025/2026!

What a fantastic achievement for William and his team. We are so proud of all the hard work, teamwork, determination and commitment that has gone into this brilliant success.

Well done, William – what an incredible achievement!

A huge well done to the children who represented St Wilfrid’s at the Wigan Athletic Kids Cup Football Competition today. The team showed amazing attitudes throughout the day, demonstrating teamwork, determination and sportsmanship at every stage. We are all very proud of their effort!
