🌿 Mini Movers 🌿

Our Toddlers have enjoyed a fun and engaging parachute activity exploring movement together through lots of physical play!

They took turns sitting in the middle of the parachute while their friends held onto the edges and slowly moved around, encouraging turn-taking, cooperation and awareness of others. Together, they moved the parachute in different ways – shaking and waving it fast and slow, up and down and in different directions.

To wind down, they sat underneath the parachute. This gave them the opportunity to experience the activity from a different perspective, encouraging curiosity and sensory exploration while providing a calmer ending to their physical play.

🌿 Preschool Physical Development 🌿

Using our garden, the children challenged their growing physical skills by utilising the climbing wall, carefully walking and balancing along wooden planks and travelling across stepping stones.

Each part of the course encouraged them to develop their balance, coordination, core strength, spacial awareness and gross motor skills, while also building confidence and encouraging them to assess manageable risks as they moved around the course independently.

We introduced a calming movement activity using our colourful scarves. They used large arm movements to wave, swirl and sweep their scarves in different directions, creating big shapes and patterns in the air.

Child’s Voice πŸ—£οΈ

β€œHow did your body feel after moving around and climbing?”

Ashton - β€œI was hot and out of breath!”
Hakeem - β€œGood! I was strong!”
Lily - β€œ My body went really fast when I was stepping!”
Chloe - β€œ I was making lots of shapes and I was hot.”
Aubrey - β€œ I really love the climbing wall so I felt happy!”
Dahlia - β€œMy body was happy. I love climbing high and balancing!”

πŸ‚ Autumn 1 – Who Am I? πŸ‚

For our upcoming Autumn 1 term, our curriculum focus will be β€œWho Am I?”

Throughout the term, children will explore their own identity, families, homes, feelings and emotions while developing healthy habits, self-care skills and independence. We will also focus on settling into nursery, building secure relationships and becoming confident with our daily routines.

Our learning will be supported through high-quality texts including The Colour Monster, Funnybones, Owl Babies, The Family Book and Ruby’s Worry, alongside familiar nursery rhymes that encourage communication, language, movement and confidence.

These first-hand experiences will help children learn about themselves, their families, their community and the changing world around them, while nurturing curiosity, confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging. πŸ’™

🌈 Exploring Colour Through Light Play ✨

Today our babies enjoyed a sensory experience as they explored colour, shape and light using our light box. πŸ’‘

We provided a selection of colourful translucent shapes for the children to investigate freely. As they placed, moved and layered the shapes across the light box , they were able to observe how the light travelled through the different colours and how new colours and patterns appeared when shapes overlapped. πŸ”΄πŸŸ‘πŸ”΅

This simple, open-ended activity supported so many areas of our babies’ development. Reaching, grasping, picking up and positioning the shapes encouraged fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, while the bright light, colours and different shapes provided sensory exploration.

Jess modelled simple language such as β€œred,” β€œblue,” β€œcircle,” β€œlight,” helping to introduce new vocabulary and support early communication and understanding.

The babies were encouraged to explore while developing their curiosity and concentration and as they discovered what happened when they moved and combined the different resources.

Through light play, our babies are beginning to notice colours, shapes, patterns, light and shadow through meaningful, hands-on exploration.

🌿 Physical Development
🌿 Communication and Language
🌿 Understanding the World
🌿 Mathematics
🌿 Expressive Arts and Design

A wonderful example of how even our youngest children can learn about the world around them through sensory, child-led play and exploration.✨

What’s the one thing that helped your child settle into school or nursery? πŸ€”

πŸ₯•πŸ“ Healthy Eating in Pre-School!πŸ₯¦πŸž

Today in our Pre-School room, we have been learning all about healthy eating, different food groups and the importance of having a balanced diet. 🌱

During group time, we explored the different food groups and talked about the foods that belong within each one. The children shared their own ideas about their favourite foods and discussed how different foods help our bodies in different ways β€” from giving us energy to play and learn to helping us grow strong and stay healthy. πŸ’ͺ✨

We looked closely at the healthy eating plate, encouraging the children to think about the importance of eating a variety of foods, including:

🍎 Fruit and vegetables
πŸ₯” Potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other carbohydrates
πŸ₯› Dairy and alternatives
πŸ₯š Beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins

We then worked together to create our very own Pre-School Healthy Eating Plate, choosing and adding different foods from each food group. This gave the children the opportunity to put their new knowledge into practice, recognise and categorise familiar foods and talk about the healthy choices we can make at mealtimes.

Activities like this help children to develop an early understanding of nutrition, health and self-care, while also supporting their communication and language, decision-making and understanding of the world. πŸŒπŸ’š

By introducing conversations around healthy eating from an early age, we can support our children in developing positive, healthy relationships with food and an understanding that a balanced diet is all about enjoying a wide variety of foods. 🌿

Healthy bodies, healthy minds and happy little learners! πŸ“πŸ₯¦
