☕💚 FIX IT’S MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING 💚☕

On Monday, we hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for a charity that is very close to the hearts of our staff and learners.

One of our learners, Alfie, asked to get involved by planning events and activities to help support our fundraising — and what a fantastic job he did! 👏

We had activities taking place throughout the centre for everyone to enjoy, including:

🧸 Name the Teddy
🍰 Bake Sale
🏎️ Remote Control Car Racing
🏁 Racing Simulator

And, of course, the main event…

😂 DUNK THE STAFF! 😂

We are absolutely delighted to have raised over £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, donated, baked, raced, volunteered and — most importantly — helped make the day such a success.

A special well done to Alfie for his fantastic fundraising ideas and for helping to bring everyone together for such a brilliant cause.

This week in Functional Skills, learners have been doing some exciting activities. Learners were tasked with building a tower out of just paper and tape, but it also had to hold an object with weight 😮 We saw some very creative ideas and learners loved taking part.

Learners have also done some back to back drawings which certainly brought some laughs!!!

It has been lovely to see old and new faces!! 👏🏼 #👏🏼

Fix It is a proud sponsor of Orrell St James ARLFC Under 14's Blues🏉

We also sponsor team player, Brian Murphy, who received 'Top Defender' in the last match.

This award shows outstanding determination, resilience and teamwork on the pitch. This accomplishment reflects the values we promote at our college and we are delighted to be part of their journey and success.

Well done, Brian!🙂

SEN Local Offer Event🙂

This week, staff attended a SEN event, which provided a valuable opportunity for young people to explore the support and services available to them.

The event brought together a wide range of organisations to help young people and vulnerable adults in their future planning.

Our Motor Vehicle Lead Tutor took some resources/tools in order for people attending to take a wheel off and then put it back on themselves (the adults loved this one too!)😃

Our Functional Skills Lead took some ingredients to make mocktails😋. This was used to demonstrate how we use maths in real time, using a measuring jug and scales in order to get the perfect drink!

Overall, the event was informative and empowering. Thank you for having us!

This term, the Post 16 Level 1 learners have been working through the 'Battery and Lighting systems' module of their Motor Vehicle Studies Qualification.

This week, learners learned about 'Potato Power!' where they learned that a regular potato can produce almost 1 Volt of Electricity. They wired multiple potatoes (and a banana!) in a series circuit to make nearly 10 Volts, enough to illuminate a LED light!😮

Learners also learned about how generators work and how to change a light bulb correctly.

The Level 2 learners continued their professional journey to employment and carried out a Four Wheel Alignment check on a Range Rover, then made adjustments.🔧

Last week we had a guest speaker in from 'Unbottled'.

Loti, who is a diversity and inclusion ambassador, came into our centre and delivered a workshop, encouraging conversations about belonging, identity and diversity.

Our learners were really engaged and loved having Loti in🙂
