SEN Local Offer Event🙂

This week, staff attended a SEN event, which provided a valuable opportunity for young people to explore the support and services available to them.

The event brought together a wide range of organisations to help young people and vulnerable adults in their future planning.

Our Motor Vehicle Lead Tutor took some resources/tools in order for people attending to take a wheel off and then put it back on themselves (the adults loved this one too!)😃

Our Functional Skills Lead took some ingredients to make mocktails😋. This was used to demonstrate how we use maths in real time, using a measuring jug and scales in order to get the perfect drink!

Overall, the event was informative and empowering. Thank you for having us!

This term, the Post 16 Level 1 learners have been working through the 'Battery and Lighting systems' module of their Motor Vehicle Studies Qualification.

This week, learners learned about 'Potato Power!' where they learned that a regular potato can produce almost 1 Volt of Electricity. They wired multiple potatoes (and a banana!) in a series circuit to make nearly 10 Volts, enough to illuminate a LED light!😮

Learners also learned about how generators work and how to change a light bulb correctly.

The Level 2 learners continued their professional journey to employment and carried out a Four Wheel Alignment check on a Range Rover, then made adjustments.🔧

Last week we had a guest speaker in from 'Unbottled'.

Loti, who is a diversity and inclusion ambassador, came into our centre and delivered a workshop, encouraging conversations about belonging, identity and diversity.

Our learners were really engaged and loved having Loti in🙂

We have had a FANTASTIC half term and we couldn’t be prouder.

We have celebrated the success of our learners in a well deserved rewards day.

Our learners have worked so hard this term, we have had a huge number of ATL 5’s which is a time where a learner has gone above and beyond.

We have also celebrated our learners on 100% attendance a who have a fantastic attendance/punctuality record.

Our group 3 learners have been out of centre to take part in mock interviews and this was a great success.

Overall a tremendous effort throughout the centre. Keep up the good work 😃

Here at FIX IT, our staff always make the effort to support our learners and make them feel they have a safe space where they belong.

Our wonderful functional skills tutors thought it would be nice to pay it forward and encourage our learners to write Easter cards and had them out with a sweet treat to a member of staff they felt deserved it.

What a wonderful day in the centre. We appreciate the positive vibes we’ve had this week and we wish everyone a wonderful Easter break.

We’ve had a cracking time this week with all of our Easter activities. As part of functional skills sessions this week, learners have been learning to follow a set of written instructions. We thought it would be fun to follow the instructions and make cheesecake filled Easter eggs.

Last week, we had a guest speaker in at Fix It, delivering a talk to our learners.

Our learners welcomed him in and was all very engaged. This is a really good opportunity for our learners and we will definitely be doing more!🙂
