Are your experienced care managers ready for their next step?
The Level 6 Service Designer Apprenticeship is a fantastic progression opportunity for senior staff who have already completed traditional care or management qualifications.
It gives managers the skills to:
• Improve service-user and family experience
• Redesign inefficient processes
• Lead change and service improvement
• Strengthen person-centred delivery
• Use data and feedback to improve outcomes
• Develop new or existing services
• Manage transformation projects with confidence
This programme is particularly suitable for Registered Managers, Service Managers, Operations Managers, Quality Leads and Regional Managers.
Although the title is “Service Designer”, this is not a graphic design qualification. It is about giving managers the skills to review a service from end to end, identify what could work better and lead meaningful improvement.
Interestingly, organisations involved in developing the apprenticeship standard included the Care Quality Commission (CQC), NHS and Public Health England, demonstrating how transferable these skills are to health and care environments.
Funding options
✅ Learners aged 24 and under – 100% funded Eligible apprentices aged 16–24 can have their training and assessment costs fully funded, up to the funding band maximum.
✅ non-levy employers – 5% contribution for learners aged 25+ For a programme costing £15,000, this could mean an employer contribution of just £750, with the remaining 95% government funded.
✅ Levy-paying employers – up to £15,000 from your levy account Employers with sufficient levy funds can use up to £15,000 per learner from their apprenticeship service account.
✅ Levy funds exhausted?
For new starts aged 25 and over, where a levy-paying employer has insufficient levy funds, the employer contributes 25% and the government funds the remaining 75%.
On a £15,000 programme:
Employer contribution: £3,750
Government contribution: £11,250
