📖 WORLD BOOK DAY 2023 📖
What fun we've had today celebrating some of our favourite books.
I Want My Hat Back- We LOVE this book! We used the characters from the book to re-enact the story and bring it to life! The children loved using the characters to act it out and practice all the different voices we use for the story, they know every word to the book and enjoyed matching the characters to the ones on the page! We made our own little hats too to role play the bear and the rabbit in the story! 🐻
Giraffes Can't Dance - we recreated the first dance scene with our animals and talked about how Gerald felt, then later in the book we talked about how his feelings had changed. We danced like Gerald and tried to make the bendy dance shapes of a giraffe! 🦒
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - we loved using the props with this story and used the opportunity to talk about the life cycle of a caterpillar as well as healthy food choices!
We had our own very hungry caterpillar (made from a pringles tube 😂) which we fed each different food to as we read through the book. We used our reversible caterpillar /butterfly and its chrysalis to look at the life cycle and understand what happens when a caterpillar has a big sleep after lots of food! 😋🐛

Some pictures from last week 📸
We used the loose parts to make patterns, faces and little gardens! 🌲
We found ice in the garden and had a great time experimenting with it and seeing what it felt like! There was a boat and car stuck in it so we rescued them by smashing the ice on the floor, and then poured warm water on it to watch the ice melt! We then jumped in the puddles we had made!❄
We used different coloured pom poms with kitchen accessories to make pom pom soup and tea! We also sorted them into colours and used the tweezers to practice our fine motor skills.🍲
We baked some gingerbread stars and decorated them! 👩🍳
We went for a lovely walk on a fresh day and had a run around, watched the water bubbling under the bridge, sat on the bench to watch cars, buses and lorries go by.🚌
We set up some "roads" using planks and raced our cars down the ramp. 🚗
We read the story of the 3 Little Pigs and used our story sack to recreate the story with pig and wolf masks, sticks, bricks and straw to build houses and little pig figures! 🐖

Yesterday we followed on from our interest in witches and enjoyed exploring this sensory potion making set up!🧹
We filled a cauldron with water beads and made lots of potions and spells, adding things like spiders, frogs and eyeballs! 🕷️🐸👀
We practiced our counting as we added our ingredients, used our imagination as we pretended to be witches, improved our fine motor skills as we grabbed the slippery water beads and learned lots of new words! 🧙♀️
We read Winnie The Witch and talked about the spells she makes to change the colour of Wilbur, her cat, and the magic words she used! 📖

Yesterday we strengthened our fine motor muscles with a spider rescue game! Using tweezers, the children had to rescue the spiders from their web! 🕸️
We read some books about witches and made our own magical potions in our cauldron and perfected our cackles! 🧙♀️
We then made some paper plate diyas for Diwali using the paint sticks and gluing on sparkly sequins! 🪔
