On Thursdays our sensory superstars get hands on making our fabulous cheesecakes…
This also gives us the opportunity to focus on our independent skills,
Once we’ve made our desserts, we get hands on and stuck into the clean up!
Washing up provides us with a fabulous sensory experience, we love feeling the warm water and bubbles between our fingers…
We also throw some counting skills into the mix, setting tables and making sure everyone is accounted for.
In the afternoon we work on identifying our shapes, we love to look and feel all the shapes and sizes.
Our superstars get creative by using those shapes to draw our favourite animals..

Fizz, Fizz, Hooray!

Today our Sensory Adventurers continued developing their skills through our bath bomb-making session.

We began by identifying and choosing our scent of the week, supporting communication, decision-making and personal choice. We then explored colour options through our Rainbow Song, incorporating singing and Sign Along to encourage communication and participation.

We explored the individual ingredients and their different textures and smells before mixing them together and carefully filling our bath bomb moulds.

This week, the group chose a red bath bomb with a strawberry scent.

The session supported sensory exploration, communication, fine motor skills, choice-making and independence.

Tikka Chance on Me 🎶

Today our fantastic Daisy and Jenna became Sensory Adventurer chefs as they continued developing their independent living and kitchen skills.

We kicked things off with our ‘What’s in the Bag?’ song, using PECS symbols to identify and match each ingredient to the recipe. The girls then followed the step-by-step instructions, practising cutting, weighing, mixing and preparing their delicious tikka fakeaway with jasmine rice.

We also used latch switches to give independence in the kitchen, allowing them to activate equipment and take an active role in each stage of the cooking process.

From communication and sensory exploration to fine motor skills, sequencing and independence, every part of our cooking session created an opportunity to learn, make choices and have fun.

Fantastic work, girls. You’re both super Sensory Adventurers!

Lights, camera, action. Sensory Adventures are taking centre stage.

Our amazing Adventures have been busy preparing their very own performance of ‘This Is Me’ from Camp Rock, combining singing, signing and creativity to bring the song to life.

But it’s not just about performing. The Adventures have been developing a whole range of skills behind the scenes too, including directing, operating lights, using clapperboards and learning new signs to support communication.

Everyone has had a role to play, building confidence, teamwork, communication and independence along the way.

And this is just a sneak preview.

Girls just want to have fun.

Our beautiful Jenna & Daisy have had a busy and exciting sensory day, working hard to prepare delicious treats ahead of tomorrow’s Macmillan Coffee Morning.

They started by exploring the ingredients and following recipes to make delicious chocolate muffins and zesty lemon cakes. They used their senses to explore different smells, textures and ingredients before proudly seeing their creations come together.

Once the baking was complete, it was time to head to the music room to explore sounds and create some wonderful music together.

A fantastic day filled with baking, sensory exploration, music and lots of fun 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Look at what our Skills for Independence team have achieved!

Over the past three weeks, our Skills for Independence team have been working hard in the Kenny G’s diner at One Vision Studios and their progress has been fantastic to see.

Their confidence, communication, teamwork and independence are really starting to shine. They work together, support each other and are becoming increasingly confident in taking responsibility for their own jobs.

Ella has been independently washing dishes and loading the dishwasher, and even showed fantastic initiative by putting out a wet floor sign when she noticed the floor was wet.

Jake has been drying and putting dishes away, while also putting his maths skills into practice by working out change from £10. He then created a shopping list to help restock the tuck shop.

The team also help prepare breakfast, warm up dinners and use the food probe to check that meals have reached the correct temperature.

Emily and Stuart have been fantastic too, regularly getting stuck in and completing jobs without being asked.

These are so much more than kitchen tasks. They are developing real-life skills, building confidence, learning to communicate, taking responsibility and becoming more independent.

The Skills for Independence sessions are definitely making a difference, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far everyone is progressing.

Ahead of Macmillan on Friday, our Sensory Adventurers have been busy making delicious brownies.

The group began by identifying the ingredients they needed and matching each item to its PEC symbol. They then explored the different ingredients using their senses before following a step-by-step recipe to create their finished brownies.

A fantastic session developing communication, sensory exploration, following instructions and independence.

Sensory Explorers took to the road today and ventured to The Trafford Centre for the Gaia exhibit that’s currently on. It’s a 23 foot rotating projection model of Earth. We were able to relax under it either on beanbags or benches whilst calming music played in the Palazzo. We also discovered a grand piano which was great fun to play!
After a photo or two at Legoland Discovery, the time came to head over to The Orient where we tested out our communication and money handling skills to order our lunch. It was delicious! Our final task of the day was a quick visit to the shop for a treat. Spotting lots of things on our travels too made for a fantastic day! We’re so proud of our members using their road safety skills when navigating to and from the bus as well 💖💖💖
