If you’ve learned Trigonometry (sin, cos, tan) but not understood why it works, this video explains where the three functions come from. All right angles triangles are an enlargement of a triangle in the circle, so we can apply this to all right-angles triangles.

One for my teacher friends. I’ll be lighting a candle myself.
Monday will be the first anniversary of the death of Ruth Perry. I was thinking how I might mark the day.
I certainly won’t be making jokes about anything and I thought a simple photograph of a candle would reflect the fact that one of Ruth’s legacies has been to shine a light on some of the darker aspects of the school inspection system.
Then I thought, perhaps we could all do something together.
Schools and naked flames are never a good idea but led candles exist.
Let’s bring Ruth’s light into our schools on Monday.
If you have an office, put a light on your desk or put a light in the school reception area.
If you use social media, change your profile picture to a candle or simply post an image of a candle on Monday morning.
Put a light on the staffroom table or windowsill with a note explaining why.
I’m not suggesting led candles in classrooms, but you could put one in a desk drawer if you wanted to.
I’m saying this tonight so we can put the candles in our bags ready for school on Monday.
Well that’s a wrap, my last session for the year is completed.
Wishing all my students, families, followers, and friends a most wonderful Christmas 🤩🎄

If you’re time isn’t already filled with the Nrich and Nerdle Advent Calendars. Here is another one. Mathigon is a really interesting site, it has a timeline of mathematical discoveries plus lots of activities/lessons you can access - all for free.
Puzzle Calendars – Mathigon A selection of our favourite mathematical puzzles and problems. Most are simple to explain, but the solutions require clever and unconventional thinking.

Advent calendar number 2 from Nrich. This site is brilliant to get learners problem solving. Thelink is for secondary maths but they have a primary version too.
