Do they learn to sew? Absolutely... ❀️

Parents often ask me...
"What will my child learn to make?"

And the answer is...
Lots of amazing projects.

But if I'm honest...
The sewing is only half of it.

Every single lesson they're learning things that will stay with them long after they've finished their final project.

✨ They learn resilience when something goes wrong.
✨ They learn determination when a project feels tricky.
✨ They learn problem solving when something doesn't quite work first time.
✨ They learn patience.
✨ They learn independence.
✨ They learn creativity.
✨ They learn to ask for help.
✨ They learn to help someone else.
✨ They learn to keep going.

And perhaps most importantly...

They learn that they're capable of doing something they never thought they could.
Those are the lessons I hope they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

The pencil case...
The cushion...
The zipped pouch...
They're wonderful keepsakes.
But the confidence they gain?
That's the real masterpiece. ❀️

If your child is worried about making mistakes... they'll fit right in here. ❀️

One of the first things children learn in my classes...
Is that mistakes are completely normal.
In fact...
We celebrate them! πŸ˜…

Every class has its little running jokes.
There's "Erin the Unpicker" because she's become rather good friends with the unpicker.
Then there's "Rosie the Needle Snapper."
The children laugh.
I laugh.
And before long they realise...
Making mistakes isn't something to be embarrassed about.
It's simply part of learning.

I see it every single term.
Children who arrive feeling quiet and nervous...
A little unsure of themselves...
Not wanting to get anything wrong...
Fast forward just a few weeks...
They're chatting away.
Trying new things.
Helping each other.

Sometimes they're sewing so confidently I have to remind them to slow down because they're desperate to finish their project! πŸ˜…

One little girl who barely spoke when she first started now gives me a cuddle and tells me she loves me at the end of every lesson. πŸ₯Ή

Moments like that mean more than she'll ever know.

Because yes...
I'm teaching children to sew.
But more importantly...
They're learning to believe in themselves.

I never expected grandparents to become some of my biggest fans... πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

One of the loveliest things I've noticed over the last few years...
Is that it's no longer just the children getting excited about sewing.
Grandmas have started coming to drop the children off...
Not because they have to...
But because they want to have a little nosey around the studio. ❀️

They often tell me how happy they are that sewing isn't becoming a dying art.
That children genuinely WANT to learn.
That they're making things with their own hands again.

Then there are the dads...
Now let's be honest...
Dads don't always wear their emotions on their sleeve. πŸ˜…
But even they can't hide how impressed they are when they're handed a pencil wrap, a zipped pencil case or another project their child has sewn themselves.

I've even had adults message me asking...
"Can you run an adult class? I want to make one too!" πŸ˜‚
And my favourite part of all?
Watching friendships form.

Children who were complete strangers just a few weeks ago now save seats for each other.
They help each other set up.
They celebrate each other's finished projects.
Because sewing isn't just teaching children to make beautiful things...
It's bringing people together too. ❀️

There's been lots happening behind the scenes... 🀭❀️

If you've noticed me dropping the odd little hint recently...
You're not imagining it. πŸ˜…

I've been quietly working away on something that's got me incredibly excited.

Filming.
Planning.
Testing projects.
Tweaking ideas.
Making sure every single detail is as simple and enjoyable as possible for children to follow.

Because if there's one thing I've learnt over the last few years teaching hundreds of children to sew...
It's that confidence grows when children feel successful.

I want children to finish each project thinking...
"When can I make the next one?"
There's still a little bit more work to do before I can share everything...
But every day it feels one step closer.

Thank you to everyone who's already joined me on this journey.
Your excitement makes me even more excited to finally share it with you. ❀️

Imagine this... ❀️

It's raining outside.
The novelty of the summer holidays is starting to wear off.
The TV has already been on.
The tablets have made an appearance.
Everyone's getting a little restless...

Then your child disappears into the dining room.
Not because you've asked them to...
Because they've got a project they're desperate to finish.
You hear the sewing machine quietly whirring away.
Every now and then they come to find you...
"Mum... look what I've done!"

They're learning.
Creating.
Problem solving.
And feeling proud of every stitch they've sewn.

You're enjoying a hot cup of tea while they enjoy discovering a hobby they genuinely love.
Now THAT sounds like a pretty good afternoon to me. ❀️

I've been working away behind the scenes because I'd love more families to experience moments just like this...

And I promise it'll be worth the wait.

These are the comments that make everything worthwhile... ❀️

There are so many reasons I love teaching children to sew...

But it's the messages from parents that remind me why I do what I do.
πŸ’¬ "She looks forward to sewing every week."
πŸ’¬ "She's come on in confidence so much since learning how to sew."
πŸ’¬ "Her dad thought I'd bought her the pencil case from a shop... he couldn't believe she'd actually made it!"
πŸ’¬ "I've never seen my child smile so much when they showed me what they'd made."

And this one always stays with me...
πŸ’¬ "Thank you Debbie for teaching my child to sew. She's never been into sports or other activities like that... sewing is definitely her thing."

Reading messages like these reminds me that sewing is about so much more than learning to use a sewing machine.

It's about helping children discover their thing.
The hobby that gives them confidence.
The hobby they genuinely look forward to every week.
The hobby that makes them proud to say...
"I made this!"

And honestly...

I can't wait to help even more children experience that feeling.

One day, they'll forget the toy... but they'll always remember saying, "I made this." ❀️

Children receive hundreds of toys growing up.
Most are loved for a little while...
Then quietly forgotten.

But creating something with their own hands?
That's different.
Years later they'll still remember the first time they used a sewing machine.
The excitement of choosing their fabric.
The concentration.
The little mistakes.
The feeling of putting the final stitch into a project they'd made all by themselves.

And the words...
"Look what I made!"

Those are the moments that stay with them.
Not because of the pencil case.
Or the bookmark.
Or the cushion.
But because they discovered they were capable of creating something from nothing.

That kind of confidence lasts a lifetime.
I've been working away behind the scenes because I want so many more children to experience that feeling...
And I honestly can't wait to share what's coming.

They're not just learning to sew... they're learning to believe in themselves. πŸ₯Ή

Every child walks into their first sewing class feeling a little unsure.
"What if I get it wrong?"
"What if I can't do it?"

And do you know what?

They do get it wrong.
Threads snap.
Seams go wonky.
Needles need re-threading.

But that's where the magic happens.
They learn that mistakes aren't failures...
They're simply part of learning.

By the end of class, they're holding something they made themselves.
Not because it was easy.
But because they didn't give up.

And that's why sewing is about so much more than fabric.
It teaches patience.
Resilience.
Problem solving.
Confidence.
Pride.

They're skills that will help them in school, at home and throughout life.
I've got something really exciting in the works that I can't wait to share with you...
But for now, that's all I'm saying! 🀭
