Black Belt Grand Champion is one of the hardest awards to win at tournament.

To achieve it, you need to perform across the full range of events and show yourself to be a complete martial artist. It takes skill, consistency, confidence and the ability to perform under pressure.

Across the Scottish and European Championships, Widnes students won 13 Black Belt Grand Champion titles.

That now takes our school total to 200 Black Belt Grand Champions produced since we opened.

A huge congratulations to our winners:

JKN Will Lyons
Scottish and European Grand Champion

JKN Neil Durbin
European Grand Champion

JKN Jake Boyle
Scottish Grand Champion

KSN Amelia Clarke
Scottish and European Grand Champion

KSN Derek Donoghue
Scottish and European Grand Champion

PSBN Luke Littler
Scottish and European Grand Champion

PSBN Sarah Martindale
Scottish and European Grand Champion

SBN Jake Jones
Scottish Grand Champion

An outstanding achievement from every one of them.

One team. Two weekends. Two championship flags. 🇪🇺 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The majority of this team competed at both the Scottish and European Championships, covering well over 1,000 miles between them in the space of a week.

That level of commitment never goes unnoticed. We admire their dedication, appreciate their support of one another, and applaud the spirit in which they represent our school.

Very proud of every one of them.

The past two weekends have been very special for our team.

Winning both the Scottish and European Championships means that Widnes has now brought home 32 championship flags. It’s a statistic I’m incredibly proud of, but the flags themselves only tell a small part of the story.

People often see the person carrying the flag at the end of the day, but winning a championship is never about one person. It takes dedicated instructors who give up their time week after week, supportive families who spend countless weekends travelling the country, and students who simply love what they do and are willing to put the work in.

What makes me proudest is that our approach has never been to pressure people into winning. We go to tournaments to enjoy ourselves, make friends, support each other and represent our school in the right way. The medals and trophies are a by-product of that.

Our responsibility is to make sure that everyone who attends has a positive experience, whether they finish first or last. We want people to leave having enjoyed their day and looking forward to the next one.

We also have a responsibility to set a good example. To compete hard, behave well, help others where we can, and contribute positively to the events we attend.

The results have been fantastic, but when I look back on the last two weekends, what I will remember most are the smiles, the friendships, the support shown between schools, and the feeling of being surrounded by people who genuinely care about this art.

Thank you to everyone who played their part.

I’m very proud of all of you.

Good luck to everyone competing and helping out today at the Master Jack Classic WKSA Tournament in St. Louis.

Master Jack was a close friend of ours, and we shared some great times together.

We’ll raise a “weak ass” beer in his honour this evening.

K*k Sool Trail Series #4 - “A moderate ascent”

Turns out that depends entirely on your definition of moderate.

Around 25 of us took on Rivington Pike this morning, and it delivered everything. Rain, sun, hail, wind… sometimes all within the same five minutes. A proper day in the hills.

Everyone got stuck in, kept moving, and handled the climb exactly how these events are meant to be approached. No rush, just steady progress and good company all the way up.

Finished off with great cakes and a warm welcome at The Great House Barn Cafe which always hits the spot after a day like that.

Another strong turnout. Another successful day. And more money raised for a great cause.

Next one will be… fairly flat. Probably.

This is what K*k Sool should look like.

People training hard.
People supporting each other.
People enjoying being here.

A good class should challenge you, but it should also leave you feeling better than when you walked in.

That balance between being part of a community and doing something you genuinely enjoy matters.

We’re proud of the environment we’ve built, and we’ll keep doing things the same way.

Send us a message to get started.

Charity K*k Sool Trail Series #2 at The Dream, St Helens.

Wonderful weather. Proper blue skies and sunshine. A 2 mile lapped course that let people choose their own challenge, whether that meant pushing for pace or settling in for steady miles and good conversation.

Different distances, different levels, but the same positive, and supportive vibe throughout.

There was a great atmosphere all morning. Encouragement on every lap, smiles at the finish line and plenty of time spent catching up afterwards.

Great people, great effort and all for a great cause.

That’s exactly what this series is about.
