A brilliant result! I have been supporting a family by advocating for their child to change specialist provisions. He was so unhappy and his needs were not being met. I've supported with school meetings, EHCP reviews, emails and communicating with LA case workers to help them achieve this result! To hear him tell us about his amazing 1st day at his new specialist school today was awesome!

Does anyone else spend all day refreshing their inbox, incase, as if by a miracle, a SEND case worker or social worker has found the time to get back to you 🙈 ????

I’m currently so frustrated and tired, fighting for our children to access the support they desperately need to have a suitable education. Yet no one who can actually make it happen seems to have any sense of urgency 😩

It often feels like our poor children are being failed and forgotten 😢

Praying for breakthrough 🙏🏼

Bespoke timetables, alternative education and leaving education to work, means we often get to do things together during the days. Being a foster carer also gives me flexibility with my family as I don’t have a typical working day. Family time is even more precious to me as they are getting older. Today I took the oldest two swimming whilst the pool was quiet 🏊‍♀️ 🏊‍♂️

Ps: We need more foster carers! If you have a spare room, want to make a difference and would like to have more flexibility to spend time with your family, speak to me about fostering 💚

One very busy day supporting our neurodivergent family!..
~One child involved in an altercation with peer- had to be collected early and de-escalated.
~Preparing for and attending an annual review meeting with amendments and change of placement request.
~One long phone call with case worker (it was great to finally speak with our new case worker for this child 🎉 as the last one was non-existent 😩) to begin EOTAS request.
~Multiple calls with GOSH for medical appointment.
~Booking a meeting with a SENCO to prepare for a transition.
~Continued study and embedding SEND Law into practice 💪🏼

I’m done for today.. although it’s only 5pm… there’s still time 😆

Getting the support you or your young person's needs can often feel overwhelming.

What's one positive step you can take today to move further towards your goal? Today, our family visited a potential new provision for our son.

Could you send a chase-up email? Make that phone call? Dare I suggest practice some self-care to recharge?!

📣 Please, let’s stop using this unhelpful phrase

🛑 “Everyone is a little Autistic/ADHD” 🛑

Yes, most people will exhibit some of the characteristics associated with Autism or ADHD, BUT this does not mean they have, or understand what it’s like to live inside, a neurodivergent brain! It’s just completely devaluing the struggle.

Neurodivergent individuals have autistic/ADHD or other characteristics to the extent that it can massively impact their day-to-day lives. It can be a constant challenge and require huge amounts of courage, energy and emotional strain to get through the day.

Let’s not ignore this and potentially devalue the challenges that a neurodivergent person faces when living in a world that’s not currently designed for them.

This little game is awesome. It’s a great way to encourage learners to problem solve and offers levels for different abilities. I also use is as fun activity to settle learners into their session. Details on second slide. 🚗 🚙
