Our Year 4 Octopus and Penguin classes have been learning all about Maya buildings and comparing their structures to Anglo-Saxon homes. They had great fun putting their learning into practice by designing and building their own Ancient Maya inspired structures using a variety of materials, including recycled boxes, LEGO and bricks.

Our artistic Capybara Class have been taking inspiration from the iconic The Scream, by Edvard Munch. Children carefully recreated the famous painting using chalk. Lots of wonderful examples of creativity and imagination and a fantastic interpretation of such a well-known work of art.

Inspired by Aboriginal art and the use of dots, Y6 Kangaroo Class created their own colourful animal artwork using dots, patterns and symbols.

The children learnt that Aboriginal peoples have used dots in their art and cultural expression for thousands of years. Dots can be found in symbolic patterns on artefacts and in ancient rock art, as well as in sand paintings and body painting used during ceremonies.

Giraffe Class had great fun hot-seating characters from the book Rosie Revere, Engineer. They enjoyed taking on different roles and answering questions in character. It was a fantastic way to develop their understanding of the story and build confidence in speaking and listening.

Today, Y5 Capybara class explored perspective drawing and learnt how artists can make pictures look more realistic and three-dimensional. They practiced showing distance, size and position to create the illusion of depth.

The children enjoyed experimenting with their drawings and seeing how small changes can make a big difference!
