A huge thank you to everyone who’s bought a book off our list so far ❤️
If you’re out in Whitley Bay over half term, make sure you pop in to The Bound and ask for the Langley Wishlist. Every book takes us a step closer to growing our library 📚
Got two minutes next time you’re in Whitley Bay?
Reading for pleasure is one of the biggest drivers of progress in school, confidence, vocabulary, and long-term success… and it all starts with enjoying a good book.
We’re building up the school library so the children have more choice and more chance of finding books they want to pick up and keep reading.
We’ve teamed up with our lovely local independent bookshop, The Bound, to launch Langley First School’s Bookshelf Boost 📚
And we’d love your help.
Here’s all you need to do:
1. Pop into The Bound from this weekend and ask for the Langley wish list
2. Choose a book from the list and place your order (you’ll get 20% off)
3. Leave your email so we can add a little personalised sticker to say the book was gifted by your family (this is optional)
That’s it. Friends of Langley sort everything else and deliver the books into school for the children to enjoy.
What’s the benefit?
📖 More choice = a better chance of becoming a confident, happy reader
✨ They might even spot your name inside a book they bring home (always a fun moment!)
💛 And it all supports a brilliant local independent bookshop
And if you can’t buy a book, simply sharing this with other Langley families and friends is just as helpful. It all helps us grow the library for the children ❤️📚

There are some fantastic shares from some of our parents so far. Why not make your own recommendation and tick off one of your books on your challenge card? 📚
Want an easy way to tick off one of your books on your Langley Big Read challenge card before we go back to school on Monday?
Simply comment below with your book recommendations ❤️📚
And yes, the kids can get involved too - they could even use their imagination with their recommendations, drawing their favourite books or recording their recommendation on video

We’re looking forward to seeing all your reading recommendations and completed challenges over the next few weeks 📚❤️
We’re really excited to have launched The Langley First School Big Read challenge today ❤️📚
At Langley, reading is at the heart of everything we do. To celebrate 2026 being the National Year of Reading, we have set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £4,000 throughout 2026 for our phonics and guided book library, which is used by all children in the school.
Our Big Read challenge is our first step on that reading journey!
Children are invited to raise whatever they can by taking part, but not raising anything is ok too. Please only donate if you are able to. We would much rather they simply enjoyed taking part!
We have created an online campaign, which allows families to create your own fundraising pages. Visit: https://superkind.org/campaign/friends-of-langley-first-school-the-langley-first-school-big-read-2026 and click on join this campaign to set your page up.
Hopefully you all received your challenge cards in your school bags. We’d love to see your pictures of your children - and you (the red cards are for the grown ups) - ticking off the challenges ✅

Some of our parents, teachers and wider Langley community came together for a paint and sip event with support from Mel Creative Space North East last night.
Who knew there were so many talented artists amongst us at Langley? ❤️
Our PTA, Friends of Langley First School, don't just exist to raise much-needed funds for our school, they aim to create events that bring our whole community together.
Why not give them a follow to keep up to date with their events and activities?
