In today’s audio recording, hear about a couple who left the busy pace of life in Paris behind to start a new chapter in the peaceful village of Lyons-la-Forêt in Normandy. After years of the “metro, work, sleep” routine, they swapped city life for nature and have been creating their new garden. 🌱

I've been learning French for a while.

In fact, since I was about 11 or 12 at middle school - St Aidan's in Willington Quay (it's been knocked down now!).

And spoiler alert - I'm still learning!!

It's a lifelong thing for me.

I went to an average school in Wallsend, learned French for A level and then went to what was then Newcastle Poly to study French, Russian & Politics.

And learning languages completely changed my life! It led me to working abroad, living in France for a few years and ultimately to teaching in Lingua Forme.
I'm not a natural linguist - I just love it, and work hard at it. So I know what it takes to learn a language, to go deep, to keep learning when it seems to get tricky.

This is a photo of me on my first trip to Paris - one of the teachers had his wallet stolen on the metro & we had to report it to the police. I'm not sure the French gendarmes would let you borrow their hat now, though!

What a great introduction to France!

On that trip we visited the Louvre, went on a bateau mouche on the Seine, climbed up the steps to Sacré Coeur & marvelled at the Pompidou Centre.

I don't know if it triggered my love for France, but I do remember that first trip with fondness.
