There is also a new national application system, allowing families to apply for Free School Meals and School Clothing Grants at the same time.

📸 Friday Flashback

⚽️ We're looking back to April's Football Shirt Friday, when staff and students swapped uniforms for their favourite team colours to support Cancer Research UK.

☀️ With blue skies overhead and a fantastic turnout across the academy, it was a brilliant day of fundraising, teamwork and community spirit.

👏 A special congratulations to Thomas in Year 10, whose organisation helped make the event such a success.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped support an important cause.

📸 Monday Memories

A look back to February when our Year 12 students attended a Health Taster Day at the University of Cumbria.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to explore six different healthcare career pathways, gaining valuable insight into a range of university courses and professions. Sessions included Physiotherapy, Biomedical Sciences and Midwifery, allowing students to develop their understanding of the exciting opportunities available within the healthcare sector.

The students engaged brilliantly with each activity, asked thoughtful questions and gained a wealth of valuable information to support their future studies and career aspirations.

A fantastic day of learning and inspiration for our future healthcare professionals!

📸 Friday Flashback

A look back to March when representatives from the TWA Science Club visited the Beacon Museum to support the celebrations for British Science Week. 🧪🔬

Working alongside the Royal Society of Chemistry, our students helped deliver interactive displays and demonstrate exciting scientific experiments to members of the public.

This fantastic opportunity allowed students to share their enthusiasm for science, develop their communication skills and inspire others through hands-on scientific investigation.

A brilliant day representing The Whitehaven Academy and showcasing the passion and talent of our young scientists. Well done to everyone involved!

Students, families and staff have much to celebrate at The Whitehaven Academy as the school celebrates its strongest results yet.
The joy on faces and the sense of achievement has been wonderful to see.
These remarkable young people have so much to celebrate and are progressing on to sixth form, college and some fabulous apprenticeships.

We wish our students well wherever they choose to learn and are delighted to see so many choose courses with West Coast Sixth Form at The Whitehaven Academy.

The success of these brilliant young people is the result of hard work and resilience from our learners, creative and inspiring teaching, and the unwavering support of families. Well done to all.

Below is a selection of their successes:

⭐ George
George has achieved some fantastic results, including nine Grade 9s in Art, Biology, Computer Science, English Literature, Geography, History, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. He also achieved a Grade 8 in English Language. George has shown an excellent attitude to learning and consistently pushed himself to achieve top grades. We are delighted with his achievements, which are thoroughly deserved.

She achieved four Grade 9s in Biology, English Language, Geography and History, as well as four Grade 8s in English Literature, German, Maths and Physics. She also achieved a Grade 7 in Chemistry. Annie has worked relentlessly to achieve these wonderful results and should be very proud of her accomplishments.

Her achievements include a Grade 7 in Geography, Grade 6s in Maths and Science, Grade 5s in English Language and English Literature, and a Distinction* in Health & Social Care. AI-generated content, cloned voices, deepfake videos and fabricated screenshots are making it harder for young people to recognise what is genuine online.

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in helping children build the confidence and critical thinking skills needed to question digital content.

The guide explores:
• How AI-generated content and deepfakes can appear convincing
• Why familiar voices, polished presentation and repeated claims should not automatically be trusted
• Risks linked to fake accounts, impersonation and misinformation
• The importance of source-checking and verifying messages through another route
• How adults can respond when harmful or deceptive content targets a child

With clear, practical advice, this resource helps adults strengthen digital literacy and support safer, more informed online experiences.
