This year Armistice Day falls on Saturday. As a school we always take time to mark the significance of this day โ€“ this year is no different. Throughout this week we will be focusing on the significance of Remembrance Day.

Many students within our school community are Cadets and are involved in community events over the weekend. We would like to encourage all student Cadets to attend school on Friday in their Cadet uniforms as a sign of respect and pride for those who have fought for our country past and present.

Last week Miss Skillen and Mrs Gaston had the privilege of performing live at the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow with Gareth Malone OBE, choirmaster, and broadcaster.

They performed alongside Gareth in his current UK tour with the choir group Sing Space. They rehearsed and performed many songs and a medley with Gareth and his band.

An amazing experience to continue their professional development in their passion for the Expressive Arts!

In the week before half term, our heroic Year 7 boys football team took to the road two nights in a row. First stop was a good old journey down to Millom on the Wednesday where they triumphed 9-0 in a County Cup game. Some great play and it was promising to see the team take to nine-aside, where they really impressed everyone.

The next evening was a tournament in Cockermouth. Wet weather, three wins, a draw and an unlucky loss later meant that the whole squad could hold their heads up high on what was a cheery but tired bus trip home.

Huge thank you to parents who supported the team with some much-needed away support on the touchline.

Since the success before half term, the team have been back on the training pitch ahead of some upcoming winter fixtures, not to mention the county cup run. Well done year 7!

Today our Y8s were part of an engaging theatre presentation, looking at the variety of options for future career routes within the NHS (not just clinical roles) and how these can lead to a fulfilling future.

The theatre production aimed to raise aspirations and motivate all students to plan for and achieve the highest level they can in education and training, regardless of their background. It also looked at the importance of GCSEs, Post-16 options, Post-18 options and planning for a successful future.

Why we need to talk to young people about po*******hy โ€“ Brook 01/11/2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Relationships and S*x Education is part of your child's statutory education at all Key Stages.

At TWA we have developed a spiral curriculum (more details are available on the school website) that aims to build upon the important foundations that students have developed at Key Stages 1 & 2. This approach reintroduces fundamental topics in an age-appropriate way, year on year, meaning that there are no sudden shocks, leaps, or gaps in a young personโ€™s relationships and s*x education.

We are fortunate to be supported by several external agencies in our delivery of RSE this year, namely The Blue Sky Trust and SafetyNet.

We are sharing with you an interesting article from 'Brook' who we use to help inform us about best practise and keeping abreast of current RSE issues. Their website includes a useful blog relating to RSE and has some specific articles that are aimed at supporting parents/carers when educating or discussing RSE topics with young people. We hope you find this useful.
