Razzamataz Theatre Schools West Cumbria
Charlotte from head office visited Principal Matty and the students & team Razzamataz Theatre Schools West Cumbria today for a street dance workshop and got to present Matty with his Certificates in person from this years conference โค๏ธโญ๏ธ๐ญ
From work experience to theatre school owner: Matty's story โค๏ธ๐ญ
Mattyโs sister was a student at Razzamataz Theatre Schools Carlisle and after going to see her perform in the annual show, Matty fell in love with Razzamataz and desperately wanted to be a part of it. Knowing if he joined as a student, he wouldnโt have long at the school as he was about to turn 17, he contacted Denise who was the Principal at the time to see if he could do some work experience.
๐Skills and experience ๐
I learnt skills such as teamwork, problem solving, organisation, planning and delivery and supporting teachers with their classes and preparing resources. I gained key administration skills as I was lucky enough to also support the Head Office team. I honestly believe that without this experience I would have never managed to secure a job I love, that combines everything I am passionate about. Performing arts and working with and supporting young people.
๐คฉCareer progression ๐คฉ
After my work experience, I was lucky enough to secure a permanent position within the Razzamataz Carlisle team as a Classroom Assistant. From this I then went on to support Denise front of house working with current and new parents and guardians and handling new students for tasters and payments. This led on to roles as Assistant Manager/Principal. I worked for Razzamataz Carlisle for eight years and supported at other schools in the North such as Razzamataz Theatre Schools West Cumbria Razzamataz Theatre Schools South Lakes - Penrith, Kendal & Appleby
during this time as well as working for Head Office. In 2018 there was the opportunity to take over the West Cumbria school and in August I became the new Principal.
๐๐ปDreams come true ๐๐ป
Anyone who knew me as a teenager would say that I never stopped mentioning how one day I wanted my own Razzamataz School, and my dreams came true in August 2018. I still have that same buzz, drive and passion I had back then for the work we do at Razzamataz and how we support children and young people through fun, exciting and top-quality performing arts classes. I love being able to help young people build and develop their confidence, learn new key life skills, make friends and practice the performing arts all in a safe and secure environment. I truly mean it when I say this isnโt a job to me it is so much more than that! I love it! Iโm proud to be part of Razzamataz, Iโm proud of my team, students, and my amazing Razz Family at West Cumbria. Itโs the best thing I have ever done.
โจWords of wisdom โจ
Grasp every opportunity you get, make the most of the experience you are given. Never ever stop learning and growing and be a student for life. I have learnt so much about running a business that I never knew before, and I always take on board the support and advice from other franchisees and Head Office to help develop as a Principal and grow my school. Never stop being curious, be bold, be brave and be you and just love what you do!

โRazzamataz classes teach so much than to just sing, dance and act,โ says MD and Founder of Razzamataz Denise Hutton-Gosney. โAll of our classes focus on the most important life skills to help children develop self-confidence and resilience. Our Early Years classes have an even stronger emphasis on these core skills to help all children reach their full potential in this critical window of opportunity.โ

Introducing our Everyday Hero: Matty Aitchison-Rayson, Principal Razzamataz Theatre Schools West Cumbria ๐
If you know Matty, you wonโt be surprised to hear why heโs our first spotlight Principal and why his enthusiasm for his school and students is so inspiring. Whatโs more, we are especially proud because Matty actually started with us as a 16 year-old work experience student.
Matty we ๐ you because you:
Have a growth mindset and take positives from all situations despite the challenges of last year๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝfocus on your team and own leadership to grow the school from๏ฟฝstrength to strength๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ take the time to analyse your own strengths and challenges and learn from this.
โMatty has already smashed his own personal target of 120 students since reopening five weeks ago and has such a wonderful positive attitude, especially throughout the whole pandemic. We are also delighted to support him with his next ambitious goals of reaching 140 students and expanding into different pockets of his territory, starting with Cockermouth Tots and Minis midweek classes, which will act as a feeder into his main Saturday school in Whitehaven. Wishing you the best of luck Matty! We are so proud of you; from that 16 year- old work experience student at Razzamataz Carlisle to Teaching Assistant, Teacher, Assistant Principal, Manager and now Principal,โ Denise, Founder of Razzamataz Theatre Schools.

Our Wellness and Collabration calls are officially open for our amazing network and Founder and MD Denise and Creative Director and Support Mentor Charlotte caught up with Matty Razzamataz Theatre Schools West Cumbria last night to discuss all the exciting plans for the students, families and the business ๐ญ๐๐
Matty said;
โI just wanted to say a big thank you for your time yesterday evening for the Wellness and Collaboration call! It was so useful to have that 1:1 time with you both and Iโve actually taken quite a lot away from the call that I will definitely be looking into further and implementing, especially looking at delegating more to my team and empowering them and giving them new opportunities. Itโs made me even more excited and motivated for whatโs going to be a bright future at Razzamataz West Cumbria.
Thank you again for your time, advice and for asking and challenging me on points - so nice being able to have the opportunity to chat through ideas and my focus for the school and have that accountability element now!
Thank you again
