Deck the halls... and your gardens! 🎄
As the days get colder, our garden and countryside birds can struggle to find enough food and fresh water naturally.
Making an edible Christmas wreath for your garden birds is a great way to provide them with much needed food for the winter months whilst simultaneously giving your garden a festive touch.
Keep your new wreath topped up over the winter months – a constant supply will bring a steady stream of visitors! 🐦
🙋♀️ Want to know why we say keep sugar to mealtimes only?
This is because the sugar will react with the bacteria in plaque (the sticky coating on your teeth) and produce the harmful acids.
It is important to keep sugary foods only to mealtimes, limiting the amount of time your mouth is at risk. Acidic foods and drinks can be just as harmful to your teeth.
Everytime you consume sugar it can take between 20mins to 1hour for your mouth to recover.
If you sip on juice throughout the the day your teeth could be under acid attack for the full day.

🎃Playroom Pumpkin Patch 🎃
The children had a fun time exploring Playroom Pumpkin Patch on the build up to Halloween. They enjoyed using the wheelbarrows to collect their own pumpkin, and were very excited to decorate them when we got back indoors.
👧 Children don’t need to use a mouthwash.
🪥 Its important to understand that using mouthwash is not a substitute for brushing with fluoride toothpaste.
⭐️ Some mouthwashes can be harmful if swallowed so its important that you only allow your child to use a mouthwash if you are confident they can be trusted to spit out.
❎ Never use mouthwash right after brushing your teeth.
🎃 Halloween is just around the corner.
❎ We know you are probably going to be enjoying sugary treats.
✔️ Try to consume your sugary snacks right after your meals to keep sugar to mealtimes only.
🦷 Remember to brush your teeth twice daily using a fluoride toothpaste with 1350ppm - 1500ppm fluoride content.
🛌 The bedtime brush is the most important time to brush your teeth.

The amount of fluoride in the toothpaste can be found on the side of the tube and is measured in parts per million (ppm). Toothpastes containing 1350 to 1500ppm fluoride are the most effective.
Check your tube - some have less, some have no fluoride.
SPIT DON'T RINSE AFTER BRUSHING

0-3 yrs use a smear of toothpaste
3 yrs and above use a pea sized amount of toothpaste

⭐️ Sugar and Tooth Decay
🦷 Sugar causes tooth decay. It's not just about the amount of sugar in sweet food and drinks, but how long and how often the teeth are in contact with sugar.
🦷 Sweet drinks in a bottle are particularly damaging, because they bathe the teeth in sugar for long periods of time. The acid in drinks like fruit juice and squash can harm teeth as well.
🦷 Sucrose, glucose, dextrose, maltose, fructose and hydrolysed starch are all sugars. Invert sugar or syrup, honey, raw sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, muscovado sugar and concentrated fruit juices are also sugars.
🦷 No added sugar doesn't mean sugar free - these drinks will attack your teeth.
⭐️ Keep sugar to mealtimes only to prevent tooth decay.
Have you tried the Food Smart App yet?
This app tells you the sugar, fat and salt content in your foods - just scan away.
Should I use mouthwash?
Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, but don't use mouthwash (even a fluoride one) straight after brushing your teeth or it'll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the toothpaste left on your teeth.
Choose a different time to use mouthwash, such as after lunch.
Don't eat or drink for 30 minutes after using a fluoride mouthwash.
If you choose to to use mouthwash opt for an alcohol free one.
Look on the back how much fluoride content they have - they vary like toothpaste's do.
For example this one has 450ppm fluoride.
🏫 Most schools in Cumbria are returning tomorrow.
💧 What will you be putting in your child’s water bottle?
🦷 We hope it’s water to protect their teeth.
💧 Children in Copeland and Allerdale have the added bonus of fluoride in our water supply to prevent tooth decay.
