We are a community based CIC providing early years education for 1-5 year olds. Preschool for children aged 2 - 4 years.

Open Monday - Friday between 08:40 and 15:10, term-time only. We have places for funded 2, 3 and 4 year olds, as well as for fee-paying children.

⛪🌿 Free Family Activity: Explore St Albans Cathedral & Grounds! 🌿⛪

Looking for a free activity to enjoy with your early bird? Why not visit St Albans Cathedral and explore this beautiful local landmark together?

Little ones can enjoy a gentle adventure discovering the amazing building, looking at the colours, shapes and interesting features inside, before heading outside to explore the peaceful cathedral grounds.

🌳 Why not:
✨ Take a walk around the gardens
🦆 Spot birds and wildlife
👀 Look for interesting things to find
🧺 Bring a picnic and enjoy some outdoor time

It's a lovely opportunity to spend quality time together while encouraging your child's curiosity, imagination and language development.

💬 Talk about what you can see, hear and feel as you explore. These simple conversations help children learn new words and build confidence.

👀🖐️ Count Me! 🖐️👀

Who knew your body could be the perfect maths resource? Have fun counting together and help your child develop their early number skills!

Can you count...
👀 How many eyes do you have?
👂 How many ears?
✋ How many fingers?
🦶 How many toes?
😊 How many noses or belly buttons?

Don't forget to count everyone else's too! How many fingers does Daddy have? How many toes does Mummy have? Can you count your teddy's paws?

🪞 Try this too: Stand in front of a mirror together and talk about your faces and body parts. It's a great way to build body awareness and language skills.

⭐ Extend the activity: Encourage your child to draw a picture of themselves and write the numbers next to each body part, for example, 2 eyes, 1 nose, 10 fingers.

💛 Learning through play is the best way to build confidence with numbers.

🎨🧸 Let's Get Sorting! 🧸🎨

Sorting is a fantastic way to help your child develop early maths skills while having fun!

💛 Start simple by sorting by colour:
🟡 Sort building bricks into coloured bowls.
🔴 Group coloured sweets before enjoying them.
🔵 Park toy cars in different coloured "car parks."
🟢 Help sort the washing into colour piles.

Once your child is confident, try sorting by:
📏 Size – big, medium and small toys.
🚗 Type – cars and planes, teddies and dolls, animals and people.

As you play, use lots of mathematical language such as same, different, big, small, colour, group and sort.

⭐ Top tip: Turn tidying up into a game! Ask, "Can you put everything back in the correct box?" It's a brilliant way to practise sorting while helping around the house.

🌈☀️ Outdoor Chalk Drawing! ☀️🌈

Head outside with some colourful chalk and turn your driveway, patio or pavement into a giant canvas!

There are so many fun ways to play. Draw pictures, create hopscotch, make obstacle courses, practise writing your name, draw shapes, numbers or letters, or simply let your imagination run wild.

🎨 Why is chalk drawing so beneficial?
✨ Develops fine motor skills and pencil control.
✨ Encourages creativity and imagination.
✨ Supports early writing, letter and number recognition.
✨ Builds hand strength and coordination.
✨ Gets children active and enjoying the outdoors.
✨ Creates wonderful opportunities for talking, learning and problem-solving together.

📮✏️ Make Your Own Post Box! ✏️📮

Encourage your child's early writing skills with this fun and simple activity! Whether they're making marks or beginning to write letters, having a purpose for writing helps build confidence and keeps them motivated.

🧰 You'll need:
📦 A box
📝 Small pieces of paper
✏️ Pens, pencils or crayons
✂️ Scissors

Decorate your box with a posting slot, then encourage your child to write or draw letters to family members, friends, favourite toys or even pets. Talk about who the letter is for, what it says and how the post person knows where to deliver it. If you have envelopes, let your child address them and even make their own stamps!

📬 Leave the post box somewhere your child can access it so they can continue writing and posting letters whenever inspiration strikes.

⭐ Extend the activity: Why not help your child write a real letter or postcard to a grandparent, aunt, uncle or another family member? Pop it in the post together and enjoy the excitement of waiting for a reply!

Sometimes the simplest activities can create the biggest learning opportunities. Spend a few minutes sitting with your child by the window and see what you can spot together!

Talk about:
☁️ The weather

🚗 Cars, buses and bicycles
🌳 Trees moving in the wind
👋 People walking by

Window gazing helps children to:

👀 Build observation and listening skills.

🗣️ Help Your Child Learn New Words Every Day! 💬📚

Did you know that children learn new words best through everyday conversations? Whether you're reading a story, walking to the shops, cooking dinner or playing together, every chat helps to build your child's vocabulary.

Here are a few simple ideas to try at home:
🌟 Talk about what your child is looking at or interested in.
📖 Read books together and chat about the pictures.
🔁 Repeat new words often, children need to hear them many times before they start using them.
💬 Build on what your child says. If they say "car", you could reply, "Yes, it's a big blue car!"

The more words children hear, the more confident they become when communicating with others.
