As the final children leave through the gates and another school year comes to an end, it is difficult to know where to begin. The last few weeks alone have included residential adventures, educational visits, sporting successes, special assemblies, transition activities and so many memorable moments of learning. Throughout it all, our children have shown enthusiasm, resilience, courage and kindness.

Today, we also say a very special goodbye to our Year 6 children. The whole-school clap out was a fitting and moving way to mark their final departure, as pupils, staff and families came together to celebrate everything they have brought to Southill and wish them well for the future…

What an absolutely brilliant week it's been at Southill Primary!

As we approach the end of another fantastic academic year, there have been some incredible experiences across the school. Year 5 have just returned from an unforgettable residential trip to St Briavels Castle, packed with archery, fencing and outdoor challenges, while Year 6 had a fantastic two days at Primary College – a brilliant opportunity to try something new before secondary school….

With high heat forecast for the rest of this week, and to ensure that all children are comfortable and able to learn well throughout the school day, children are welcome to wear PE Kit, or any cool, comfortable and sensible clothing for the rest of this week and next week (as Tuesday was a non-uniform day anyway!)

School uniform is fine too if children prefer!

Our final Summer Sports Club session of the term ended with a splash as the children took part in an exciting game of water pong.

The aim was simple: throw ping pong balls into the opposing team's cups to eliminate them all and score points for your team. It's also a game that may come in handy later in life as it bears a striking resemblance to another well-known pong game... wink wink!

What a fantastic two days Year 6 had at Primary College! This annual event is always a brilliant opportunity for pupils to step outside their comfort zones, broaden their horizons and experience something completely new before making the exciting move to secondary school.

Across the two days, the children threw themselves into a huge range of workshops and activities, many of which they had never tried before. Whether they were getting creative, solving problems, developing practical skills or discovering new interests, it was wonderful to see everyone embracing each experience with enthusiasm and an open mind...

Another Week of Learning, Adventure and New Beginnings...

As another busy week comes to a close, I have been reflecting on just how much our children have experienced over the past few days. It has been one of those weeks that perfectly captures what makes Southill Primary such a special place to learn, with children embracing new opportunities, showing resilience and creating memories that will stay with them for years to come!

Day 4: The Final Chapter at St Briavels

We could hardly believe it. Our final day at St Briavels had arrived and somehow the week had flown by faster than a trebuchet projectile heading towards an unsuspecting castle tower.

For the first time all week, all of the children were sound asleep as we made our way around the castle to wake them for one last day of adventure. With cases packed and only a few stray socks, underpants and hidden sweets needing to be reunited with their owners, the children stripped their beds and headed down for breakfast...
