Day 5 update... 30 learners safely returned to their parents! I would like to thank all of the students for sharing their High Ashurst experience with us. I can’t think of a single student who hasn’t been challenged and achieved on the residential. During feedback this morning both Brooklands and High Ashurst staff concluded that the young people were beyond a credit to their parents! Thank you to all of the parents that have supported the residential and those that have cheered us on with Facebook comments through the week (we didn’t receive a single phone call on the college mobile). I hope your young adults have brought home lots of memories in addition to their dirty washing. Last, but never the least... I would like to take this opportunity to thank a very special group of staff who haven’t been paid between the hours of 5pm & 9am 🙌🏼. Said staff recognise the rewards beyond monetary value and have gone over and above to achieve an engaging, interactive, inspiring, challenging and FUN residential. I am beyond proud of our SEND and Transition Department! I hope everyone sleeps well tonight.

Can we summarise day 4 before it turns to day 5? Five minute update. After the karaoke breakfast we participated in a selfie challenge and have lots of photos that we look forward to sharing. Team games was today’s High Ashurst activity and we felt privileged to watch our learners safely direct each other around an obstacle course (blindfolded 😮), problem solve to release themselves from Chinese handcuffs ⛓ (twisted knots in pairs) and work out how to launch a rocket 🚀 when the hose that carries fuel is punctured with holes. With time to spare for students to get ‘suited and booted’, pack away essentials and catch a few zzzzzzz’s 😴 before making our way to Smith and Western. Burgers and beverages with donuts and ice cream all around (sorry parents 🙈) before our last campfire and bed. 12:04 with quiet whispers from the learner teepees. Last night done and dusted... one more sleep and they’ll be returned safe & sound (and ready to sleep). 😂 Goodnight all!
