Day 72 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Stance!

Doing the challenge on your own? Balance on a line/string/rope and come up with as many different shapes as you can while staying balanced.

In a pair? Like in the video, play against your partner, taking turns to perform a different move until one of you repeats or is unable to come up with a different move. Both start with 10 lives and the player with the most lives remaining wins.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, make all your poses tricky balances. If you need a bit more support, keep your poses nice and steady or remain seated.

Day 71 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Floor Work!

In a pair, face each other in a front support. While maintaining the position, try to ‘tap’ your partner’s hand before they tap yours.

Score a point each time you succeed and then reset the game after each point. The game could be played ‘first to’ or ‘best of’.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, try lifting a leg off the floor too! If you need a bit more support, keep your knees on the floor.

Day 70 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Seated balance!

Work with a partner or by yourself to come up with at least 5 shapes that you can perform in a seated balance.

Think about tuck, star, straight, straddle and pike shapes and how you might move between shapes.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, see how long you can hold each pose for. If you need a bit more support, place your hands down to help you balance.

Day 69 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

One leg balance!

Challenge on your own? Place 4 items within reaching distance. Try to pick up the items and place them on a spot as quickly as you can without losing balance.

In a pair? Stand opposite each other with 7 /items within reaching distance. Try to pick up 4 items one at a time and place them on a spot before your partner can. Losing balance loses the competition.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, use smaller items that are trickier to pick up. If you need a bit more support, use larger and lighter items.

Next up for the we're bringing you a series of Cognitive Challenges.

🧠 + 🏃 Mind AND body - let’s get them working together!

Our Cognitive Challenges combine physical activity with puzzles, problem-solving, memory and quick thinking, so children aren’t just moving their bodies, they’re putting their brains to work at the same time.

Can you remember the sequence while you move? Solve the puzzle while keeping moving? React quickly when the rules suddenly change? Keep your balance with a distraction?

It’s a fun way to challenge coordination, concentration and decision-making alongside those all-important physical skills.

Let’s get moving! 💪🧠

Day 68 of the the 🏅

It's time to check in on our Personal Bests chart we created last week.

If you haven't had chance to try and record your second attempt at last week's challenges, today is your day.

Remember, practice the skill plenty of times between your first and second attempts. Repetition and practice are how our bodies and brains learn to get better at a movement and improve our skill level.

How is your Personal Bests tracker looking?

Day 67 - Personal Bests 🏅

Here's another to track on the sheet you created earlier in the week.

Remember this is about doing the best YOU can do, not comparing to anybody else.

The Challenge:

-Combine 3 jumps.
-Measure how far your 3 jumps get you.
-Try mixing up your types of jumps to find your best combination.

The most important bit:
-Write down your distance in your '1st attempt' box.
-Don't try timing your '2nd attempt' at a personal best until you have taken a few days to practise the challenge. Practising is key to hitting your goals and making real, sustainable progress.

You can make it more challenging by combining 4 or 5 jumps.
