☀️ Sunburn: Care for your skin & know when it’s serious ☀️

Too much sun can damage your skin faster than you think. Knowing how to manage sunburn properly can reduce pain, prevent complications, and support healing.

🌿 What to do if you’re sunburnt: • Move out of the sun immediately
• Cool the skin with a lukewarm shower or cool compress (avoid ice directly on skin)
• Apply a soothing aftersun or moisturiser (look for aloe vera)
• Stay well hydrated — your body loses fluids through damaged skin
• Take simple pain relief like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen if needed
• Wear loose, soft clothing to avoid further irritation

🚫 Avoid: • Popping blisters (this increases infection risk)
• Using greasy/oil-based creams straight away (they can trap heat)
• More sun exposure while healing

⚠️ Watch out for signs of more serious sunburn: • Large blisters or widespread swelling
• Severe pain or skin that feels hot and tight
• Fever, chills, dizziness, or nausea (possible heat-related illness)
• Signs of dehydration (dry mouth, dark urine, reduced urination)
• Confusion or feeling faint

🚨 When to seek medical help: If you or someone else has any of the above symptoms, or the sunburn covers a large area, seek urgent medical advice (NHS 111 or A&E if severe).

🧴 Prevention tip: Use high SPF sunscreen, reapply regularly, and avoid peak sun hours (11am–3pm).

💬 Take care of your skin — it’s your body’s first line of defence.

⚠️ Know the signs of Meningitis — it could save a life ⚠️
Meningitis can develop quickly and become life-threatening. Early recognition and action are critical.

🧠 Common signs & symptoms: • High fever
• Severe headache
• Neck stiffness
• Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
• Nausea or vomiting
• Confusion or difficulty concentrating
• Drowsiness or difficulty waking

👶 In babies & young children: • Floppy, unresponsive, or unusually irritable
• Refusing feeds
• High-pitched cry
• Bulging soft spot (fontanelle)
• Seizures

⚠️ Watch for a rash: A non-blanching rash (doesn’t fade when pressed) can be a sign of meningococcal meningitis — but not everyone gets a rash.

🚨 What to do: • DO NOT wait — meningitis is a medical emergency
• Call 999 immediately or go to A&E
• Trust your instincts — if something feels seriously wrong, act fast!

💉 Prevention matters: Stay up to date with vaccinations — they protect against some of the most serious types of meningitis.
