New headteacher sets out vision for Westbury school

A Westbury primary school has welcomed a new headteacher, who has outlined his plans to build on the school’s existing strengths and work closely with pupils, families and staff.

Darren McKay joined Westbury Leigh Church of England Primary School at the beginning of the new academic year, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the school community.

“The school has fantastic grounds, wonderful facilities and, most importantly, amazing people,” said Darren. “Every adult I met wanted the very best for the children. There was a real sense of care, pride and ambition, and that inspired me straight away.”

“My job is to help people become the best they can be,” said Darren. “That means supporting children to learn and flourish, supporting colleagues to grow and develop, and creating a culture where everyone feels they belong.”

🐓🌿 Our School Farm 🌿🐐

Over the summer, our wonderful farm volunteers worked hard to make sure all of our animals stayed cool and comfortable during the warmer weather. The ducks especially enjoyed having some additional ponds to splash around in! 🦆💦

Our Farm Club team have also been busy refurbishing the farm base, giving it some much-needed attention. 🛠️🌱

We are incredibly grateful to the Farm Club team, Mr and Mrs Miles and everyone who gives their time and care to looking after our school farm. Your dedication makes such a difference.

Our farm is a really important part of our school. It provides an additional, hands-on educational space where our pupils can learn, develop confidence and build meaningful connections with animals and the natural environment. It also plays an important role in enhancing our inclusive and Thrive offer, supporting the wellbeing and development of our children. 💚

Tea party to meet and greet our new head teacher 👍👍

🌟 A Wonderful Start to the New School Year! 🌟
It has been fantastic to welcome everyone back to Westbury Leigh this week. Our children have returned with smiles, enthusiasm and a real eagerness to learn, while colleagues have worked hard to ensure a smooth and positive start for all.
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Elese Seabeck to our team as our new SENDCo. She brings a wealth of experience and will play a key role in supporting inclusion across our school.
From 8th September, a teacher will be available on both the KS1 and KS2 playground, alongside a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the school gate, each morning.
We're also busy planning an exciting range of lunchtime and after-school clubs. Details will be shared during the week commencing 15th September. In the meantime, TRIBE wraparound care remains available to book through Arbor.
Don't forget to join us for our informal "Meet Mr McKay" Afternoon Tea on Friday 11th September at 3.20pm in the school hall. Thanks to FoWLS, refreshments will be available and we'd love the chance to meet more of our wonderful families.
