A resophonic guitar, also known as a dobro, is a beloved part of the bluegrass sound. In 2026 Chris discovered a genuine pre-war model for sale, built in Chicago during 1936. It was being sold by the owner's grandson and had been in their family for all of it's 90 years. The instrument was so full of tone and character it inspired Chris to write and record this collection of tunes, showcasing and celebrating the unique sound of the resophonic
guitar. https://open.spotify.com/track/6W53ncTAXDMHHTApBBJ7I2?si=i5FsYkOgTrm32tXVUtiShw

Very sad to hear that the lovely Anthony Head has passed away. Some people don't realise he was a fantastic musician as well as an actor. I was lucky enough to play on his 'Staring at the Sun' album in 2013. Already a fan of his work on Buffy, he impressed me even more with his knowledge of open D tuning and his love of Little Feat.

I'm sorry to hear one of my guitar heroes died yesterday. Thanks for the music, Chris.

My love for slide guitar was greatly influenced by Chris Rea. In 1989, when I was 14, my Dad moved parish from Rowledge to become vicar of Leatherhead. My school friend's father would drive me home after a playdate. In the car he would play the newly released Road to Hell album.

I started having guitar lessons at Therfield school in 1990. My pal Adam Wheatley showed me what bottleneck slide guitar was and we listened to the American blues masters. The bug bit me and I was hooked, keen to learn anything I could about slide.

Thankfully at this time Chris was often seen on TV being interviewed and/or performing. I would tape the shows and use them as learning resources. Of course I also fell in love with his songs and bought all his back catalogue of albums on cassette tape. There was a period in the early 90s when he was releasing a new album every year. These were exciting times for me but Chris' music was hardly in keeping with teenage trends, my peers were listening to Indie Pop or Hair Metal. I've always been into Dad Rock, with Dire Straits another big influence. Adam and I forged ahead with our exploration of the blues and soon formed our first band.
