This is the latest graphic novel acquisition for the library. A very serious story this time, telling about the invasion of an unnamed country, related by two children on opposing sides of the conflict. It's extremely well crafted and beautifully illustrated, and although all ends as well as possible for the main characters, it's a great lesson in empathy for those affected.

If you are looking for something to do next week, and have children who enjoy funny diary-style books like Wimpy Kid/Tom Gates, this free event at Waterstones in Bluewater could be just the thing. Sam's books are excellent - Charlie Changes into a Chicken is very popular when I read it with groups of children.

For any children who have already enjoyed the Skandar series, or those who have yet to discover these excellent fantasy books, this is a bit of extra fun. Several of the pupils at school undertook the challenge last summer, so here it is again.

This year's Summer Reading Challenge is on the way...

@🎵 Get ready to Read to the Beat this summer

The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge is returning to Kent Libraries from Saturday 4 July to Saturday 5 September – and it’s completely free to take part.

Children aged 4 to 11 can join at any time, read what they enjoy and take part in a way that works for them. Whether it’s books, audiobooks or eBooks, it all counts.

This year’s theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates music, rhythm and creativity – bringing stories to life in fun and imaginative ways.

With flexible reading-related goals and rewards along the way, it’s a great way to keep children reading and engaged over the summer.

I've just finished this book which was only published today. I've seen it described as Lottie Brooks meets Back to the Future, which is a fair summary. It's a time travel story with a difference and there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, as well as friendship dramas and tricky historical situations to be navigated. Highly recommended, and I'm sure it will be a popular title in the library.

If you know a child who loves the InvestiGators books, this would be a wonderful competition for them to enter.
