It was design and technology week in school last week and our Year 6 designers created scaled models of sustainable community centres using foam board. Children made thoughtful eco‑decisions, adding features such as solar panels, green walls, water harvesting, biodiversity areas and sustainable travel options.
Across the week they applied a wide range of practical skills and showcased our Skills Builder strengths: teamwork, creativity, aiming high, speaking, listening, adapting, planning, problem solving and leadership.
The finished models are outstanding and the children were rightly proud of what they achieved. 🌿🏗️✨

Year 3 marked World Environment Day by exploring the impact of food waste on our planet.
They were shocked to discover that the UK throws away 9.52 million tonnes of food every year — the same as 40 million wheelie bins, or nearly 100 concert stadiums filled with food that could still be eaten. This amount could feed over 30 million people, even though 8.4 million people in the UK live in food poverty.
Inspired to make a difference, Year 3 are becoming waste warriors. They will be weighing the food thrown away at lunchtimes and using their findings to spread the message about why we must all do our bit to reduce waste.
We can’t wait to follow their progress as they help our school become more sustainable. 🌍💚

Year 1 celebrated World Environment Day by learning why saving energy and water matters for our planet.
They explored how small everyday choices — like turning off lights or not wasting water — help protect natural resources and reduce pollution.
To share their message, the children created thoughtful posters showing how everyone can make simple changes to look after our world. A brilliant effort from our young eco‑champions. 🌍💡💧

Year 5 marked World Environment Day by diving into global warming and the greenhouse effect.
They explored how rising temperatures affect weather patterns, melt ice caps and disrupt habitats around the world, helping them understand why this issue matters for everyone.
To show their learning, the children created thoughtful posters and impressive models that explained the science in clear, creative ways — a brilliant effort to raise awareness and inspire others to take climate action. 🌍🔥

Year 2 marked World Environment Day by learning about the impact of plastic pollution on our oceans.
The children explored how plastic harms sea animals, damages habitats and stays in the water for hundreds of years, causing long‑lasting problems for marine life.
To spread the message, they designed their own badges with slogans like “Stop polluting” and “Stop littering” — a brilliant way to remind everyone to protect our oceans and make small changes that lead to a cleaner planet. 🌍💙
Well done, Year 2.
