Ndcs support for siblings of deaf family members

💭 Did you know… we have new activity booklets for hearing siblings? 💭

It can be hard for hearing children to understand that their sibling is deaf or what it means. They may feel worried, confused or even left out.

‘Me and my deaf brother or sister’ activity booklets can help hearing children learn about what deafness is and what it’s like to be deaf. There are also lots of fun activities and stories to help your child explore and express their emotions.

For siblings aged five and under, download or order the booklet at

For siblings aged six and up, download or order the booklet at

Did you know that music is essential for early childhood development?

Music has been shown to.....

🎹 Boost language development: Music exposes toddlers to a rich vocabulary and helps them learn new words and phrases.

🥁 Enhance cognitive skills: Rhythm and patterns in music help toddlers develop their memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.

🎷 Promote social and emotional growth: Music provides a fun and engaging way for toddlers to interact with others and learn how to express their emotions.

👉 These classes are designed to introduce toddlers to the world of music in a fun and interactive way. They'll sing, dance, and play instruments, all while developing essential skills for later life.

Music Magic is a great way for your little one to learn, grow, and have fun!

Ready to strike up a conversation? Social communication skills (known as ‘pragmatics’) are important, but sometimes deaf children’s pragmatic skills are delayed.

Our new booklet has lots of fun activities you can use to practise key social skills with your child.

Go to page 54 and try out ‘Starting a conversation’. In this activity, your child will learn how to ask about someone’s evening or weekend plans to start a conversation.

This is a fantastic project set up by a group of young braillists - The Tactile Times!

The Tactile Times is a newspaper by young braillists, for young braillists. Realising there were no newspapers directly aimed at young braillists; Ellie, Lexy and Theo thought it would be fun to set up a way to share news, experiences, event information, jokes and more.

You can find out more about the newspaper and find out how to read the latest issue here:

Another very successful holiday activity with Albion Foundation today. Unfortunately the ghosts must have played with our cameras so we have no photographs 😱

Keep those eyes peeled for more activities in 2024!
We have more cookery, Albion Foundation, kayaking, glamping and a family night at Frank Chapman. We will also be holding coffee morning in different locations around the borough to meet our staff and other families with children who are support by our vision and hearing support teams.

Thank you to all families who are supporting and attending our events.
