Youth club is back- join SDCA for new season of fun and games!

We’re delighted to announce that we recently received funding from The Hays Travel Foundation, which will help support the SDCA Youth Club 💜.

The Youth Club will restart on Monday 19th October, from 5pm to 7pm, at:

Yew Tree and Tamebridge Community Centre
Redwood Road, Walsall
WS5 4LB

The Youth Club is for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafblind, cochlear implant users and young people with other hearing needs aged 8–17.

It is open to young people living in the Black Country area — Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Sandwell.

The funding will help us provide opportunities for young people to meet, make new friends, socialise, have fun and take part in activities.

A Deaf child who looks like they've stopped concentrating may actually have been concentrating harder than everyone else in the room.⁠

That's something every educator should know about listening fatigue.⁠
⁠
Following a teacher, processing speech in background noise, keeping up with class discussions, moving through noisy corridors and then doing it all again in the afternoon can require significant additional effort for a Deaf child.⁠

And fatigue doesn't always look like tiredness; It can look like distraction, frustration, withdrawal or reduced participation.⁠

We've refreshed our practical guide for teachers and education teams, with ways to reduce listening demands rather than simply expecting a child to keep concentrating harder.⁠

We are excited to invite children and young people (CYP) with visual impairment (VI) and inclusive of all disabilities to our FREE Halloween Fun Day on Wednesday 28th October, here at the Beacon Centre. Siblings, carers,
and parents are all welcome.

Our planned activities are fully inclusive and welcoming to children and young people of all abilities and disabilities, ensuring everyone can take part, have fun, and enjoy the Halloween celebrations in a safe and supportive environment.

Families can choose to join us:

🎃 Morning Session (11-12pm)
🎃 Afternoon Session (1-3pm)
🎃 Or stay for the full day!

There will be a Halloween party in the morning and then a Cinema Screening in the afternoon with opportunities to make friends, and have plenty of fun!

Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

We will also have a CYP sight loss drop-in session with Jody, our CYP Development Coordinator who will be on hand to ask any questions relating to sight loss and young people. Jody will be available throughout the day.
