Today we welcomed Danielle Parker from Solar for Schools. Solar for Schools are committed to supporting schools to acquire solar panels and to educating young people about energy and sustainability. All students attended an assembly presented by Danielle and some were able to work with her to learn about how we can identify the best place for the panels to be installed. Thank you to Miss Pullen for organising this opportunity for our students.

Another great week here at Shireland CBSO Academy, culminating in a celebration of European Day of Languages 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 🇵🇹
The day started with an assembly from our own Madame Thomas before form groups embarked on a competition to identify each of the flags displayed in our dining room. The day ended with a feast of European cuisine, courtesy of our wonderful kitchen staff. The chicken gyros were particularly popular! 🇬🇷
It was great to see our students so excited by language learning 🇮🇹 🇧🇪 🇭🇷

Thank you to everyone who visited us last night for our very first year 7 open event! It was fantastic to see so many people around school making music and taking part in the classroom demonstrations.
We’re looking forward to welcoming people to our next open event on Saturday morning from 9am – 11am. Come and find out more about the fantastic opportunities we have on offer.
If you’re driving to the event, please park for free in the West Bromwich Building Society car park off Providence Place, not on the road immediately outside the entrance to the building. We will have people on site to direct you.

We have really enjoyed welcoming families to our open event this evening, and have particuarly enjoyed having some of our visitors play for us! It’s great to see that there are so many talented young musicians in our area, and we hope many will choose to join us in September 2024.

There has been a great atmosphere in the academy today as we launched our music tuition! 🎶 Over the next week, all students will begin lessons in their chosen instrument, with tuition provided by SIPS Education - Music & Arts. The day began with an assembly from our Director of Music, Mr Harris, on the importance of practising our instruments 🎼
We also had a very special visit from Stephen Maddock, former CEO of the CBSO and now Principal at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire who spoke to our students about the exciting possibilities available to young musicians in the West Midlands.

Shireland CBSO Academy is delighted to announce that it will be opening its doors to prospective students and their parents on Wednesday 20 September 5.00pm-7.30pm and Saturday 23 September 9.00am-11.00am. No booking required.
The Academy is proud to be the first state school in Britain to be established in partnership with a national orchestra. In collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, we offer students from Sandwell and the wider West Midlands an exceptional education and the opportunity to pursue musical excellence.
During this event, families will be able to tour the academy’s brand-new, state-of-the-art music facilities and sports centre, meet teachers and the academy’s leadership team, and talk to staff and students about academy life.

Exciting PhD Studentship Research Opportunity!

Birmingham City University are accepting applications for a funded PhD studentship where the successful candidate will be following the journey of Shireland CBSO Academy from the beginning, researching the challenges, successes and the impact the school’s music-centric approach.
To date, there is nothing quite like Shireland CBSO Academy in the UK, and so this would be a ground-breaking piece of work with significant ramifications for both practice here and abroad. Yesterday we had the joy of meeting our very first cohort of year 7 students on their induction day. It was wonderful to see them interact with their new form tutor and get to know one another. We hope the students had a fantastic time, just as we did! They also had the opportunity to participate in a musical workshop, adding an extra touch of excitement to the day.
We would also like to thank all the families who joined us for the end-of-day presentation, we appreciate your support.
We look forward to seeing everyone again in September... this time in our brand new school!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Department for Culture, Media and Sport Minister Lord Parkinson for an exclusive tour of our facilities and to meet with staff from the school and Trust, including representatives from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
We can’t wait to officially open our doors in September and welcome our very first cohort of students. We’re excited to offer them an extraordinary educational experience through our unique partnerships.
